Styx: Shards of Darkness was officially announced on October 14, 2015 and during the announcement, Cyanide announced the game had been in development for about six months. Cyanide studios says it wants to delve deeper into the world of Styx, which is a world where he is the first goblin, surrounded by elves and humans. The companies working on the game have a bigger budget for this title than they did the original.

Cyanide has said that this version of Styx has been rebuilt from the ground up to look quite a bit more nimble and more refined than in the first Styx game. Along with an announcement of the game, the developers showed off one screenshot. The picture is said to be showing what Styx does best in that he has snuck up on one of his enemies and is taking him down as he emerges from the shadows.

One of the biggest complaints about the first game in the Styx series was that the motion of the main character and the combat was rather clunky. In some regard, Cyanide has said it meant to have Styx not be a lithe killing machine but a goblin that would have some problems with dexterity. Still, the company has said they have made the movement of the goblin quite a bit smoother.

The company has said Styx: Shards of Darkness will be available on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC sometime in 2016 though an official release date has not been announced.

Story

styx shards of darkness

Styx: Shades of Darkness is a direct sequel to Styx: Master of Shadows and picks up shortly after the original game’s end. Following the fall of Akenash tower, which was basically Styx’s doing in the first game, the goblin had apparently gone into hiding in order to avoid the human and elves that had become his enemy thanks in large part to the antics at the tower.

Despite the fact the main character of this story likes to stay hidden, the developers have said the story includes an extraordinary matter that has actually managed to bring the goblin out of hiding to infiltrate Körangar, the city of the Dark Elves. This city was thought to be impregnable unless someone is invited in, it turns out that a diplomatic summit has given Styx the opening he needs to slip into the city unnoticed. Styx soon realizes that not everything is as it seems and that the event is nothing but a mere facade.

Even worse is that the elves have joined forces with the dwarf army. The reason the two sides have decided to work together is that they have a hatred of goblins thanks to the events of the first game. Now the world’s first goblin has to figure out how he’s going to get out of any number of different jams and take down the alliance.

Gameplay

Styx Shards of Darkness 1

The gameplay for Styx: Shards of Darkness is said to be very similar to what players saw in Styx: Master of Shadows. This means the main component of the game will be finding a way to sneak around the environment rather than rushing into a room and taking down enemies. The developers have said they have improved the maps and there are going to be new enemies featured in this version of the series.

New mechanics have been built in the game to refine the movement of Styx, who will be able to get around the map. Styx will be able to grapple around the corners, use climbing ropes, and his trusty knife as a zip-wire. The company has said this game “aims to offer unparalleled freedom of movement, along with refined stealth and assassination mechanics, expanding and improving on the strengths of Styx: Master of Shadows.

Styx will be able to use a number of special powers in order to get around. The goblin has the power of invisibility for short periods of time as well as some other arcane abilities. The most popular power Styx possesses is the ability to vomit up clones of himself. These clones can be used in order to work through puzzles, as well as just serving as bait for enemies so the real first goblin is able to get away or around an obstacle.

Characters

Styx Shards of Darkness 2

The main character of Styx: Master of Shadows is again, the creature that was the world’s first goblin. This is also the game’s main protagonist as he squares off against a number of mythical races that have formed an alliance with the goal of wiping out goblins. There are a number of different enemies that will fight Styx but there have not been any enemies or other NPCs officially revealed yet.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game
