The rumoured remake of Persona 4 is expected to be similar to what we saw with the release of Persona 3 Reload last year.

A new report indicates that among the games that will be showcased during the June 8 Xbox Games Showcase will be a remake of PS2 RPG Persona 4. According to Mp1st, a source revealed to the publication that the Persona 4 remake will be announced as coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The report indicates that this remake of Persona 4 will be similar in style to Persona 3 Reload, which saw completely new assets, including voice acting and music, as well as improved visuals owing to the fact that the game was made using the engine powering Persona 5 and more recent games in the series.

While the gameplay in Persona 3 Reload was largely left the same as the original, there were a few quality-of-life changes, including the ability to manually command your team mates to use specific attacks and spells. The rumoured Persona 4 remake will also likely feature some similar quality-of-life updates.

Back in May, Yuri Lowenthal – who has previously been the voice actor of Persona 4 party member Yosuke Hanamura – had indicated that a Persona 4 remake was in the works. On social media platform BlueSky, Lowenthal said that, while he had “begged” to reprise his role as Yosuke in the remake, Atlus had declined. Lowenthal’s post has since been deleted.

Persona 4 was originally released all the way back in 2008 on the PS2. The game featured major changes from its predecessor – Persona 3 – by bringing in a wider variety of dungeons and a more vibrant cast of characters. Contrasting with Persona 3, Persona 4 also left behind the big city setting of its predecessor, instead taking place in the small village of Inaba.

In Persona 4, players are put into the shoes of a high school student that has been freshly transferred to Inaba to live with his uncle and cousin sister for a year. Over the course of the first few days, a rumour about something called the “Midnight Channel” spreads around, where those who stare at a switched-off TV at midnight will get to see a picture of their soulmate.

In true Persona fashion, the protagonist, along with friends from his high school, will venture into an alternate world where they must take on the shadow-y manifestations of peoples’ darkest thoughts. To take on these enemies, the protagonist and his friends tap into the powers of their own thoughts – the eponymous Persona.

Along with Persona 3, Persona 4 was the major title that attracted a more mainstream audience to the franchise. The game was popular enough to get an extended re-release for the PlayStation Vita – which was eventually released on all modern platforms – dubbed Persona 4 Golden, as well as anime and movie adaptations, and even spin-off titles.

Persona has been one of the biggest franchises under Atlus, and by extension, under Sega as a whole. The most recent mainline entry in the series was Persona 5 Royal, which also got sequels and spin-offs in the form of Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 5 Tactica.

Following the success of Persona 3 Reload, Atlus may have another Persona remake in development, as per a domain registration.

Atlus delivered a solid remake of a beloved classic last year with Persona 3 Reload, garnering widespread critical acclaim and enjoying strong sales to match. There’s been plenty of speculation since then that the Japanese developer will have more Persona remakes to offer down the line, and recent developments also seem to be pointing to that.

Spotted by YouTuber Faz on Twitter, Atlus has registered the p4re.jp domain, which many presume is a Persona 4 remake domain- and it’s not hard to see why. As the YouTuber points out, the domain for Persona 3 Reload – p3re.jp – was registered a couple of months prior to the game’s official announcement. It should be interesting to see what that domain means for the hypothetical remake’s subtitle. Persona 4 Retuned? Persona 4 Rerun? Persona 4 Rewind?

Of course, it remains to be seen whether that means we’re going to get a Persona 4 remake announcement in the near future, but evidence does seem to point to the game being real, at least.

p4re. jp was registered a few hours ago.

2 years ago, p3re. jp was registered. 3 months later Persona 3 Reload was revealed pic.twitter.com/FjuhAkr76q

As of today (March 5), the beloved role-playing series has collectively sold 22.6 million units worldwide, Atlus has announced.

As the Persona series’ popularity continues to grow, so, too do its sales, with Atlus having recently announced another new major commercial milestone for the beloved role-playing series.

The developer has announced that as of today, March 5, the Persona series has sold a total of 22.6 million units worldwide across all platforms, including all mainline games and their many spinoffs and re-releases.

Of course, that number did receive a recent boost with Persona 3 Reload, which launch last month and sold 1 million units in its first week, becoming Atlus’ biggest launch to date. Atlus has also released a special trailer for the remake to celebrate the series’ latest sales milestone. Check it out below.

A significant portion of the series’ sales are also thanks to Persona 5 and its spinoffs, which have collectively sold over 10 million units to date.

Though Atlus has said that it doesn’t plan to release an expanded version of Persona 3 Reload similar to Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Royal, a recent datamining leak suggested that Persona 3 FES’ The Answer will nonetheless be added as DLC, which is something that a hidden easter egg in the remake seems to suggest as well. Meanwhile, leaks have claimed that Atlus is also working on a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game.

As for what’s next for the series beyond that, if rumours are to be believed, Persona 6 is targeting a 2025 launch, and is going to be a semi-open world experience. Atlus’ parent company Sega has said it expects the game to sell 5 million units in its first year, so clearly, the company has high hopes for Persona.

The three most recent Persona releases have gotten an accolades trailer, along with discounts on every modern platform.

Atlus has released a new trailer for the Persona franchise, showing off the number of accolades the three most recent multi-platform releases have received. The trailer features Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal, all of which were released on to modern systems recently.

Alongside the trailer, Atlus has also discounted all three Persona games across various platforms. On PlayStation, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are available at a 20% discount, while Persona 5 Royal is available at a 30% discount.

Xbox players can pick up the Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden bundle at a 25% discount, and Persona 5 Royal on its own at a 30% discount. PC players will find the franchise discounted as part of the Steam Spring Sale, with Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden being available at 20% discounts each, and Persona 5 Royal available at a 35% discount. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden can be picked up as a bundle for an additional 5% discount on the individual games’ prices.

Neither Sega nor Atlus have announced a new mainline game in the Persona series. The closest to a mainline Persona release was 2021’s Persona 5 Strikers, which acts as a direct sequel to Persona 5.

Both ports feature 60 FPS options on all platforms and 120 FPS options on Xbox Series X. They're also playable on Game Pass.

Atlus’s ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are finally available on modern consoles and Game Pass. Persona 3 Portable is out on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC. Persona 4 Golden is already available for PC via Steam but also arrives on the Microsoft Store along with the previously mentioned consoles.

Persona 3 Portable sees the player investigating the Dark Hour, an extra hour that occurs each night when the supernatural runs rampant. Persona 4 Golden is about the Midnight Channel and how the main investigates various disappearances in their town.
Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden's Xbox Series X versions also supposedly "run flawlessly with Quick Resume support."

The Persona franchise is continuing its long-awaited drive to expand to more audiences beyond the boundaries of PlayStation, with Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden soon launching for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. But how do the games run on each platform, and which one comes out on top?

Frame rate targets for each game have been detailed in interview published by The Mako Reactor, revealing that on Xbox Series X, the two ports have a 120 FPS option, which isn’t available on any other system (what with there being no native PS5 launch for the games). Meanwhile, on both PS4 and Nintendo Switch, the game targets 60 FPS.

The outlet’s review for the Switch version of Persona 4 Golden says the game “looks amazing” in handheld mode. Meanwhile, the ports also supposedly “run flawlessly with Quick Resume support” on the Xbox Series X.

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are launching for new platforms on January 17. Recent leaks have claimed that Atlus is also working on a full-fledged remake of Persona 3- read more on that through here.

Microsoft has confirmed that the first wave of January additions for the subscription service doesn't include any newly-announced titles.

Microsoft has unveiled the lineup of games coming to Game Pass in January as part of its first wave of new additions, and it’s a pretty sparse collection to kick off the year, at least in terms of pure numbers. Only three games are included, and all three have been confirmed for Game Pass for a while – though all three are certainly major releases.

January 19 will see the Persona series continuing to expand its presence on Microsoft’s ecosystem with the release of Persona 3 Potable and Persona 4 Golden’s ports for additional platforms. Both games will be added to Game Pass for console, PC, and cloud at launch. The next day brings Monster Hunter Rise, which is coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles at last, and will also be available for Game Pass via console, PC, and cloud at launch.

Recent reports suggested that Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital’s first person shooter Shadow Warrior 3 would be announced for Game Pass soon, but it isn’t included in January’s first wave of additions. Leaks have claimed that Microsoft has an Xbox-focused showcase planned for later this month, so there’s a chance that we hear more then.
