The Game Awards could see the reveal of the next Star Wars Jedi title or the re-emergence of Knights of the Old Republic - Remake.
EA said in its statement about the layoffs that the decision was made because of its focus on "long-term strategic priorities."
Respawn Entertainment also announced "targeted team adjustments" for Apex Legends and the next entry in the Star Wars Jedi series.
The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will also be the final instalment in Respawn Entertainment's action-adventure series, it's been confirmed.
Despite major successes like the Star Wars Jedi series, Electronic Arts is suddenly moving away from the sci-fi franchise.
"We’re working on a third and we’re in the process of doing that right now," says Cameron Monaghan, who plays protagonist Cal Kestis.
"We don't have anything to announce today, but we have an incredible partnership with Disney and Lucas," says EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
Respawn Entertainment is looking to recruit in a number of open positions for its Star Wars team, suggesting a sequel to Jedi: Survivor could already be in the works.
