Producer Katsuhiro Harada also revealed that 51 percent the series sales came from Europe, followed by the United States at 30 percent.

Despite the controversy surrounding Tekken 8’s recent addition of the cash shop and Battle Pass, Bandai Namco’s sequel has done well. Before its launch, producer Katsuhiro Harada revealed that the series had sold over 55 million copies on the Game Maker’s Notebook Podcast.

Harada conversed with Shuhei Yoshida, the head of the independent developer initiative at Sony Interactive Entertainment, in an episode filmed before Tekken 8’s release. The latest mainline title sold two million copies within its first three weeks, which brings the total series sales to over 57 million. However, Bandai Namco hasn’t officially announced the milestone.

Some other interesting bits revealed during the podcast include Europe encompassing 51 percent of total sales for the series, followed by the United States at about 30 percent. He also reaffirmed that Tekken 7 had sold 11 million copies (the official figure is over 11.8 million sold as of February 2024).

Tekken 8 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Check out our review here.

Series director Katsuhiro Harada confirms that Tekken 7 has sold over 10 million units, while cumulative series sales sit at 54 million units.

Tekken 8 was announced earlier in the year and got its first proper gameplay showing at The Game Awards, so clearly, series fans have plenty to be excited about in the near future. That said, Tekken 7 is still going strong, nearly eight years on from its launch, and continues to sell well even now.

Series director Katsuhiro Harada recently took to Twitter and announced that Bandai Namco’s fighter has now sold over 10 million copies worldwide, up from the 9 million figure reported in June. Additionally, the Tekken franchise’s total sales have now exceeded 54 million units worldwide, which is up from 53 million units.

Tekken 8’s recent gameplay showing focused primarily on the game’s story, while also featuring several familiar characters, including the likes of Kazuya Mishima, Jun Kazama, Law, Lars, Paul, King, and Jack-8. The game is being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC using Unreal Engine 5. Bandai Namco has said that it could potentially launch in 2023.

Spirits from the Tekken series like Heihachi, Yoshimitsu, Jin Kazama and many more join the fray along with new Mii Fighter costumes.

A new challenger – or Challenger Pack, rather – joins Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Tekken’s Kazuya Mishima. Along with his trademark style, Kazuya unleashes the power of the Devil Gene in various Smash attacks, Neutrals and whatnot. For more details on how he plays, check out the latest “Mr Sakurai Presents” here.

Along with Challenger Pack 10, which adds 39 songs from the Tekken series, there are new Spirits to acquire from the Shop. These include Heihachi, Nina Williams, King, Kuma and Panda, Yoshimitsu and many more while Sophia and Arthur will appear in the Spirit Board and Shop. New Mii Fighter costumes have also been added including Dante from Devil May Cry, the Dragonborn from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia and Shantae from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

Each Mii Fighter costume can be purchased for $0.75 while Challenger Pack 10 costs $5.99 standalone or as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2 for $29.99. One Challenger Pack remains and will be the last DLC fighter added, as series creator Masahiro Sakurai recently reaffirmed. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months on who it could possibly be.

The latest Challenger Pack retails for $5.99 and includes a new Spirits Board, 39 songs from the Tekken series, a new stage and of course, Kazuya.

In the latest “Mr. Sakurai Presents” for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, director Masahiro Sakurai outlined all of the characteristics for the next Challenger Pack – Kazuya Mishima from Tekken. Described as a comeback fighter that deals high damage and can turn a fight around, he’ll be available tomorrow. Check out his myriad of moves below.

When bringing Kazuya into Smash Bros., Sakurai says the team wanted to do more than simply carry him over from Tekken (especially given how different speed and design is for each title). To that end, Kazuya’s main calling card is using the Devil Gene for Smash attacks, Neutrals, and Specials. This includes Devil Blaster, which fires a laser that can hit opponents across the stage; Devil Fist, which will pass through and immobilize a foe briefly; Devil Wings, which can be used to gain additional height or as a rising attack; and Heaven’s Door, which sees Kazuya grabbing his opponent and slamming them down. A fun effect of Heaven’s Door is that slamming an opponent down will also damage any surrounding foes.

If that weren’t enough, Kazuya enters a Rage state at 100 percent health, which multiplies damage by 1.1 and adds a special once-per-stock Rage Drive. The latter essentially turns Heaven’s Door into a more powerful attacks which can send opponents flying. Then there’s his Final Smash, which fires a fan of beams out that hits multiple foes. Of course, be careful not to spam his grapple too much or Kazuya will exit the Rage state.

Of course, the Challenger Pack also adds alternate outfits for Kazuya, a new stage, a whopping 39 songs from the Tekken series and a new Spirits Board for Tekken characters. Challenger Pack 10 will retail for $5.99 and is included with Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Stay tuned for more details on the next major patch as well.

Kazuya brings his classic fighting style to the crossover series along with his Devil form. Also watch him tossing classic Smash fighters into a volcano.

Nintendo kicked off its Direct presentation with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was revealed that Kazuya Mishima from Bandai Namco’s Tekken series would be joining the roster in the next Challenger Pack. Check out the trailer below which sees him throwing all of his defeated opponents into a volcano.

Kazuya offers quite the range of close quarters moves and can even turn into his Devil form to unleash lasers on his foes. Heihachi also appears at some point, which is likely an Assist Trophy. There will also be a variety of different outfits for Kazuya to equip including his snazzy suit.

Though series creator Masahiro Sakurai didn’t provide a release date, he did confirm a more in-depth look at Kazuya’s moveset on June 28th. Kazuya is the fifth Challenger Pack in Fighters Pass Vol. 2 and the tenth overall pack to be added. Along with the character, there will be a unique stage and accompanying music from the Tekken series. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

The latest DLC fighter for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now live with ARMS’ Min Min. She’s purchasable standalone or with Fighters Pass Vol. 2 which costs $29.99 and includes an additional five DLC fighters for the future. Update version 8.0.0 is also available and brings fighter balance changes along with the ability to have Spirit Battle rematches.

Min Min is a mid-range fighter with some interesting moves in her kit. She can attack left and right simultaneously, change ARMS for either heavy hits or firing lasers, and can jump higher depending on how long her jump is charged. Her Final Smash is also quite the spectacle as it sees the entire ARMS cast joining in for a beatdown on foes.

Additional Spirits can also be found in the shop with this update. You’ll find Master Mummy, Byte and Barq, Kid Cobra, Helix, Max Brass and many more to acquire in the Vault. New Mii Fighter costumes, particularly Heihachi from Tekken, Ninjara from ARMS, Marie and Callie from Splatoon and Vault Boy from Fallout, have also been added.

Along with confirming Min Min from ARMS as the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, producer Masahiro Sakurai also revealed the next round of Mii Fighter costumes. This includes Ninjara from ARMS, Heihachi from Tekken and Callie and Marie from Splatoon. Check them out in action below.

However, perhaps the most surprising addition is Vault Boy from Fallout. As a Mii Gunner, the costume sports a ray gun as its main weapon. Does this generate hope for Skyrim’s Dragonborn to be added as a Mii costume some day? Time will tell. In the meantime, you can pick up all of the above Mii costumes for $0.75 each on June 29th.

Sakurai also revealed a very interesting way that Mii costumes can tie into one’s experience. If you face a fighter with a Spirit that matches an owned Mii costume, then that fighter’s appearance will change to match the costume. For example, facing Mega Man with Cuphead as his Spirit will change the appearance to Cuphead, so it will feel more like fighting the actual character. Stay tuned for more details on other features when the next update goes live.

These games let you embrace the darkness and wreak havoc on foes.

Demons are a dime a dozen in video games, whether it’s as terrifying foes or mysterious allies. But how many times have you had to the opportunity to play as a demon, unleashing those demonic powers for yourself? Let’s take a look at 15 titles that offer that opportunity (with some mixing a bit of evil in to go with it).

The Darkness – Jackie Estacado

Jackie Estacado seems to be your average, run of the mill gangster. That is, until he’s possessed by The Darkness, an ancient malevolent entity that wreaks havoc and rips people apart, among other things. The Darkness has inhabited Jackie’s family line for generations and wars with him for control. While considered a demon in the games, the comic books reveal The Darkness to be the embodiment of chaos and evil, the void before the light and other such discomforting terms.

Spoilt for choice here.

Writing, performance, and development are the most important when it comes to how we view and remember characters, but names are quite important as well. And though a bad name doesn’t automatically mean a bad character, they do at least give us stuff to laugh at. Here, we’ll be talking about 15 hilariously named video game characters.

ABRA, KADABRA (POKEMON)

Pokemon as a series has always embraced its whimsy, and that is constantly reflected in the way it names its eponymous monsters. One of the funniest examples of this is the entire line of Gen 1 Psychic Pokemon Abra, which evolves into Kadabra, showing no subtlety in its Abracadarba reference.

Anyone? I mean, there has to be someone, right?

When Street Fighter X Tekken released, it was the first game of what was promised to be a two part venture between Capcom and Namco. The first game in that series wasn’t well received for a variety of reasons (though it got updated pretty well to be a solid title as time went on). But the second half on Namco’s part, Tekken X Street Fighter, never materialized. And now the lead of the Tekken series asks…does anyone still want this?

On his official Twitter account, Katsuhiro Harada asked fans if they’re still waiting for the game. Ironically, the strong positions of the individual entries of Tekken and Street Fighter series has made him doubt the market has a place for the crossover. It’s not the first time he’s communicated that the game would be hard to justify releasing.

Do you still want Tekken X Street Fighter? Well, Harada actually included a poll in his tweet. If you still want to see the game, vote below. I don’t know if it will matter in the end, but who knows, it can’t hurt.

Let me be honest. What percentage of you are really waiting for "TEKKEN x Street Fighter"?

(My marketing view is that TK7 and SFV are selling very well, so there is no opportunity to drop TK x SF on the market).

— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) December 13, 2019
