James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing

Please skip to 00:45

The fabled train chase sequence from Everything or Nothing is- without a doubt- one of the best chase sequences in any video game. Driving through tunnels, dodging missiles, firing our own missiles, all the while driving through crazy, on-fire environments at break-neck speed… it never gets old, no matter how many times you play it or watch it. James Bond games might have always been good with their chases, but nothing beats Everything or Nothing.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

We were confused whether to put the bike scene from MGS4, but ultimately we have to settle with this one. This had all the ingredients of a heart pumping chase, shagohod right behind you, enemies rolling all over and that damned Ocelot pushing hard to take you down. The tension and the thrill in this sequence are palpable, and no matter how many times you play through it, you will always be on the edge of your seat. Of course, we could no put the entire chase sequence in the video, because it is well over thirty minutes long.

Mirror’s Edge

Mirror’s Edge had some really memorable chase sequences, what with the game being centered around that. This particular sequence given above, though, stands out in my memory. With a helicopter chasing us and shooting at us all the time, we have little time to think are react nimbly, but we have to get through several parts of a city, the final part of the chase being the most frantic, with us jumping from crazy heights to platforms far below, walking on walls and swinging on poles. It’s crazy, frantic fun.

Assassin’s Creed II

Assassin’s Creed II was a wonder of a game, with little to no faults, and with its awesome platforming mechanics, the chase sequences were a joy to play through. One of the highlights of the game, and the best chase sequence, though was the cart chase sequence. It has the player driving a chariot through the mountains, with hordes upon hordes of our enemies upon us. We have to make sure the enemies that do manage to get onto our chariot fall off, and the ones that get to us have to be killed off. It’s one of the best chase sequences, without any reservations, and will stand out in the players’ memories for a long time to come.
