2008: Far Cry 2
Few games get wind physics right, but Far Cry 2 managed this monumental task back in 2008. The best part of it all was how fire reacted to the wind, spreading on the breeze and torching buildings and foilage alike. It was impressive at the time, and no game has done it better since.
2009: Red Faction: Guerilla
The game that made destructible evironments a true art, Red Faction: Guerilla took Red Faction’s awesome GeoMod technology to a whole new level. Nothing beats planting a single charge on a corner stone to topple a two story building, but more artisan destruction could be achieved through some of the more intricate tools of destruction offered up by Guerilla.
2010: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Though it might not have been as impressive as Red Faction’s effort, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 still offered some impressive destruction physics. With trees and buildings crumbling around the game’s varied arsenal, Bad Company 2 is a perfect example of how destruction physics can be incorporated into a multiplayer FPS.
