#9. THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM

skyrim special edition

Skyrim holds the distinct honour of being the buggiest game on the list, and ordinarily, that buggy nature would be a huge knock against any game- but not Skyrim. Why is that? Because it just works? Well, yes- but why exactly? Because the total freedom to do literally anything you want in its rich, dense, huge world is something that transcends any bugs or glitches you can encounter. Skyrim is, to put it simply, the very definition of a sandbox. No matter where you go in its huge map, you can and will always find something interesting to do, whether that’s an engrossing new questline that can end multiple ways, or the opportunity to explore an exciting new environment, or just endlessly mess about in its open world and end up creating memorable stories entirely of your own making. It gives you the tool to create your own epic fantasy adventure, and it’s hard to think of a game that does that as well as Skyrim does. It is literally endlessly replayable- perhaps that is why it is available on every piece of hardware ever known to mankind, including that toaster in your kitchen.
