The UK retail game industry saw a total revitalization in December of 2013 after months upon months of lethargy and decline- on the back of the two new console launches, coupled with the hysteria that goes with them, and some very high profile game launches and strong performing evergreen titles as well, the UK retail game industry scored £600 million in the month.
MVC UK points out that software alone made£265.4 million, but it was the console hardware market that saw the biggest spike, with over 1.25m games machines sold over this month. Of course, most of this comes from the extraordinarily successful PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launches, as well as perennial strong performer Xbox 360.
This marks a clear return to form for the UK market, which had been contracting and on the decline for a while now. It remains to be seen if this is just a temporary bubble on the back of the recent console launches, or a sustained trend.
