Mass Effect 3

Dammit, I hate writing stuff on this game. Mass Effect 2 is my favourite game of all time, so every time someone asks me to say or write something about the series or Mass Effect 3, I get overwhelmed, and I start fumbling with my thoughts- I lose track of what I have to say. So for once, I’m not gonna talk about what seems to looks good about this game from what we’ve seen so far. I’m just waiting to see if BioWare can pull this off by style. So far, it looks like they can. but it’s hard to live up to the highest rated RPG of all time.

Paper Mario 3DS

Super Paper Mario was another one of those IPs that had so much potential but Nintendo never developed- because the first game on the N64 was brilliant. Obviously, fans of the RPG genre and of the Mario franchise are looking forward to Paper Mario 3DS more than any other game on Nintendo’s new handheld. And for good reason, apparently. The game looks great, pure fun, utilizing the 3D functionalities of the 3DS too. It may not be the typical Final Fantasy-esque RPG, and it may not be a full fledged Mario platformer, but it’s still something that all 3DS owners would be very foolish to miss out on.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Xbox 360)

The Witcher 2 is one of the highest rated games of 2011, and for good reason. It was a beautiful, stunning, deep RPG with a rich game world and a twisting, complex story that shocked and awed at every turn. The character development in the game was fantastic, and it was just a brilliant experience all round. The Xbox 360 version, while it does seem to have a few cutbacks, looks fantastic too. It has extra missions, extra gameplay content, it looks beautiful, and the combat looks as awesome as before, if not better. We can’t wait to see if TW2 plays as well on the 360 as it did on the PC.

Xenoblade Chronicles

After such a long struggle by North American fans, Nintendo is finally releasing this highly praised and highly anticipated RPG in the US. It saw its release in Europe last year, and it was met with phenomenal reviews. I, myself gave it a solid 9.5, and personally think it’s the best JRPG I have ever played. It has an excellent story, unique and wonderful setting and classic, addictive, deep JRPG gameplay. I believe the release of this game marks the rebirth of the JRPG genre, or at least the beginning of the rebirth.
