When we think about those really impressive open worlds that have wowed us over the years, we often retreat to the past. Daggerfall, San Andreas, GTA3 etc. All worlds that were large enough to get totally lost in, but this was some time ago. Whilst the first impressions of these games will last a lifetime, it’s time to have a think about the games in recent memories that had equally massive open worlds. 10. Rift
As one of the most recent contenders in the MMO arena attempting to compete with the titan that is World of Warcraft. Rift needed to truly be on form to even make a dent in the market. It managed to do this, and a great deal more when it launched last year. The game map is large and detailed, and the inclusion of randomly generated rifts that affect the game world without player intervention is a stroke of genius.
