What a year it has been. And if we thought that the current year has ended for video games than you are very much mistaken. The holiday season is right around the corner and with games like Modern Warfare 2 and Assassins Creed 2 unreleased so far, we don’t really have a clear winner as to who will take the elite title of best graphics of 2009. So far Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is running the show. Many gamers have already give their judgment about the game; that its the ‘game of the generation’. But Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is really looking like a stellar game which can give Uncharted 2 a good run for its money in the visuals department.

They didn’t build it themselves, He’s right it’s modified idtech3 engine. COD has always used the quake 3 engine. If you look up COD2 they still used the Quake 3 engine which Modern Warfare is built on. That’s why on the multiplayer menu of COD4 it says IW3, it’s the 3rd iteration of idtech 3. COD1 was straight up idtech 3, I even remember the .pk3 files. COD2 brought around changes because of DX9 and shader model 3.0, Infinity Ward still called it idtech 3. The only real reason they called it IW3 is because Modern Warfare was the 3rd game that iterated on the idtech 3 engine. There were no official IW1.0 and IW2.0 engines.
To summarize they went from Idtech 3 with COD to COD2 to IW3 with Modern Warfare, and revised IW3 into IW4 for Modern Warfare 2.

Not a hope in hell can MW2 touch uncharted 2 except on PC. The console versions are yet again running a mere 1024 x 600 versus uncharted’s full 1280 x 720p. It wont look remotely as sharp or as good as a result…

its an insult to even ask if a MULTIPLATFORM GAME can beat a ps3 exclusive powerhouse game like uncharted 2 when it comes to graphics .
let me explain for all the little fanboys or dilusional people or the misinformed. ps3 is the most powerful console vever made and its the most powerful console available on the market right now. if a game is optimized while using the ps3s resources like the SPUs , PPE, and blu rays capacity , that game is not possible on any other console , period. knowing these facts make you realize that other consoles hold back quality and content in multiplatform games because the ps3 is a technological powerhouse .
look at the top ps3 exclusives, they are games with tech. physics, animations , gameplay , and graphics that have never been done on any other console , EVER.

Actually, both consoles have their differences. Yes the PS3 does have a more powerful processor, but the 360 has a better GPU

From what I’ve seen is it as good looking as Uncharted 2? No.
However, comparing it to something that is easily the current benchmark for console graphics is insulting to IW as they are two completely different games with completely different needs. As others have pointed out, you’re comparing a multiplatform title to one built from the ground up to solely take advantage of the PS3.
Is it a good looking game in it’s own right? Yes. If that floats your boat then surely that’s all you need to know, not how it compares to something else?
No offense to the author but I’d be hard pushed to think of a more pointless article. More than that I’m actually annoyed with myself now for bothering to write and post a repy!

Uncharted 1 has better graphics than Modern Warfare2. Not to mention Uncharted 1 only used 30% of what the Cell Processor is capable of doing. On the other hand they said Uncharted 2 used just about 100% of the Cell Processor. Which Uncharted 2 looks fucking unbelievable compared to ANY game.

I can’t imagine how anybody can think MW2 will top UC2 visually. Not only can you tell that UC2’s character models and environmental textures are higher quality from screenshots, but the animations in UC2 are simply unbeatable, especially from a multi-player focused FPS.

MW2 looks to have some big scenes but I can’t see it looking better then Uncharted 2. Uncharted has some amazing texture work and that’s one area that the first MW failed at, a lot of flat low res textures. I can see it being improved in MW2 but it still won’t top what you see in Uncharted 2.
