Unfortunately, gamers are lied to and are given expectations for video games far more than what developers are able to deliver. Over the years, we’ve seen some small fibs to gigantic lies that stirred an uproar in the gaming community. Here are the biggest lies that video game developers and publishers tried to tell you but ended up getting caught.

Do you agree with the list or do you have anything else you want to add to the list? Let us know in the comment section down below.

E3 2010:  Kinect Star Wars Failed Presentation

The Kinect Star Wars video game was developed by Terminal Reality and was shown off during E3 2011 in what was supposed to be a gameplay demo. However, it was quickly debunked after the in-game character moved before the presenter. Take a look at the video above and watch how the movements don’t match up.

Sony also released PLENTY of games that actually did run at 60fps though. And even 1080p too and even in 3D too (not all those at once though, leave that for PS4) 🙂

With Peter Molyneux, I was disappointed after the abysmal sequel to Black and White before touching another franchise from him.

Anything Kinect related, you are a moron AT THE TIME if you didn’t listen to us about these videos being so incredibly fake and bullshit.

The same can be said about the Killzone trailer (yes it is CG and it was obvious from the moment you saw it) and yet the most overlooked thing about that is how BETTER the finished game looked. Look at the awful fire and effects in that footage and that was CG fire. Yes a game is NEVER going to flow like that trailer did because that wasn’t even a video game, it was a CGI animation film from a First Person perspective. For example, what button would you push to make him do that arm movement when he jumps off the air transport to tell the team to move out??? I wouldn’t like to play a game like that, that looks like it is 100% a sequence of fixed events. Now, why don’t you show the Motorstorm trailer that was supposed to be gameplay, lol, to this day, it still looks like we are a long way from driving games looking THAT good.

It is funny that for most of these topics, Microsoft and Xbox wins 1st prize for being deceiving AND on Gamingbolt too ^_^

The biggest lie is Sony’s 1080p and 60fps BS and the low IQ pau per demographic falling for it over and over again.

    • LGK

Actually it was 1080p AND 120FPS.

    • Guest

Yeah, PoS3 was supposed to run multiple 1080p screens. What a joke!

    • Orion Wolf

And let’s not forget about the 4d thing with the ps3 (yeah that happened) or the KZ2 trailer.

… or telling people you had maintenance for a week, when in reality you were hacked.

All that and I still prefer Sony over Microsoft

    • Starman

      Because you’re a stupid kid fanboy…

Whatever makes you feel better about yourself

The best thing that could happen is for MS to exit the console business and let Sony and Nintendo to run it.I am so glad Ps4 is selling amazingly unlike your precious Xbone.

    • LGK

The odds of Sony going bankrupt is actually greater than the odds of MS spinning off the Xbox division. Think about that.

    • Jessika S.

I think Milo takes the cake on this one, she is so close to the screen that it’s pretty much a joke, when she hands the paper over to Milo she doesn’t even hold it up to get scanned. Bill Gates and Toy Story graphics, DRM switch. I think we’ve all been taken for a ride for the last couple of years.

    • iplayvidya

The funny thing is that Molyneux said that Kinect was a joke, lol.

    • corvusmd

      …and where is he now?

    • Starman

He sucks …. that’s why they booted him…

    • kreator

Yeah when Phony maid that comment about toy story image qaulity..smh

    • Jessika S.

Is “Phony” suppose to be Sony? That comment was made by Bill Gates about the Xbox.

    • kreator

Phony said this about the PS2 when it launched! And Kaz said the PS3 can do gaming at 1080p 120FPS. Still waiting!

    • Jessika S.
    • kreator

Actually Sony and MS both made the claim. Bill gates said made the claim when praising the Original Xbox as being 3x’s faster than anything on the market. Sony also claimed the same when showing off it’s emotion engine for PS2. Both were clearly wrong.

    • Starman

Bro you wrong , it was at E3 2000 , when Sony made that statement ….get your facts straight …

    • Michael Norris

No you are wrong, tell you what find the quote and post it here.

    • Jessika S.

One I’m a girl and two take it up with this website because I’m only going by what they are saying tell them to get their facts straight.

There is some misconception that Sony were
the ones to claim that PlayStation 2 will be able to render Toy Story
like visuals however it was actually Microsoft’s Bill Gates. Gates said
the “3-D chips in the Xbox would be three times faster than anything on
the market and offer nearly unlimited graphical visuals. We’re
approaching the level of detail seen in Toy Story 2,” he said, referring
to the computer-generated kids film from Disney/Pixar.”

    • Failz

Flipping a switch is a little different to a half a gig system patch. Those who say itd a lie over exaggerated it by miles.

    • Jessika S.

well in this case the word “Flipping a switch” was a metaphor, it didn’t really matter how they did it or what it took to get it done the fact of the matter was that they did update the system to turn the feature off. Remember they also said that the Xbox could not work without the Kinect and in the end it did and it does.

I’m an Xbox One Day One owner I got the system when it came out and I was one of the few who thought the DRM system was pretty cool. When you go back and re-hear the plan they had it was a great Idea but everyone just went into panic mode.

    • corvusmd

Or…a tech demo is something that ALL companies do to show what they are intending to make/or an idea of what they see the potential being for the tech….that doesn’t mean that Milo was promise/lie…in fact from day one MS/Peter were VERY CLEAR, that it was just a tech demo.

Changing your mind is also not a lie…I’m not sure about your reference to Bill Gates and Toy Story.

    • Jessika S.

I know that tech demos is something that all companies do but in this case Milo was a game but in this case they just didn’t really know what to do it or how to market this for an audience… and about the reference to Bill Gates and Toy Story that’s on this site, it’s number 13 on this article.

      Bill Gates/Toy Story:
      http://gamingbolt.com/biggest-lies-that-video-game-developers-tried-to-tell-you-but-ended-up-getting-caught/13

This is the real reason project Milo was killed:
      http://123kinect.com/truth-out-real-reason-milo-killed/33784/

    • Starman

Milo was never a lie … it was always presented using 360 specs …. cut the BS out bro …

    • Michael Norris

      LOLOLOLOL it was faked nimrod.

    • kreator

      Lmfao

  • d0x360

I only watches #1 so I’ll comment again but the star wars one was the guy mimicking a cinema. It was obvious. The actual game part was spot on so I dony think they were trying to trick anyone there it was more of a statement about being in the moment

  • iplayvidya

Another click-bait article by good ol gamingbolt, yeah, devs lie, people lie, it’s not uncommon, specially in this industry.

  • BigDickKaman

gaming bolt worse gaming website ever

    • Lord Darque

If you think that then why are you here?

  • Edonus

They didnt put in Killzone Shadowfall MP not being 1080p. They are currently getting sued for this right now.

    • corvusmd

Nor did they put in that initially Sony denied that PSn was hacked, even though it was proven that they knew right away.

    • Starman

That wasn’t MS that was Sony with the PS2….

    • Michael Norris

No Bill Gates said Xbox would have Toy Story graphics.

    • corvusmd

…no graphics “approaching Toy Story graphics”. Which at the time, the quote is completely accurate considering the leap games were making compared to the games that existed.

  • supersungin

    great list,100% correct.

    • rodney patrick

Just like Sony with their toy story graphics on the ps2

    • supersungin

      true

  • phar0ahad3

there is a indie game called echo something that runs at 1080p 120fps on the ps3 so yeaaaaa he didnt lie not only that but this list would be 90% microsoft if some of these werent forced on the list because people overhyped themselves for killzone 2

I think there is a huge difference between people talking about what they hope to get in a project and outright lies about what is in it. Many of these examples are examples of the former. While it is bad to get people’s hopes up that is not the same as outright lies.

  • Mark

Great job GBolt…….anytime I read fanboy comments, I should just pull out this article. All companies hype up their product, c’mon people. Buy ur games, talk about them, but dam the bashing is simple idiocy. As if only one company does it.

  • AngelsandDemons1

What about Wii U third party support?

  • Dirkster_Dude

Most of these comments approach the level over hyping but not actually lying. These stated facts may have turned out to not be true, but lying requires intent. They were most likely giving the best information they had at the time, which includes developers who thought they could do something that simply wasn’t possible. Of course 2 or 3 of these stated facts out of the 15 at the time seem like lying is the only answer to gamers having been provided incorrect information. Either way it was an interesting article.

  • corvusmd

The biggest lie here is claiming that most of these are ‘lies”…a tech demo with no promise past being a tech demo/vertical slice is in NO WAY a lie. Gaming “journalism” is the biggest lie in gaming.

  • What? I thought Diablo III would get #1 spot but it’s not even listed!

  • Corey

the couldn’t just flip a switch to “toggle” the DRM stuff for xbox. They had to patch the whole system day one. So I mean…..that wasn’t really a “lie.”
