Borderlands 3 Is Not Something That Can Be “Just Cooked Up Overnight”

Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox studio explains why the wait for Borderlands 3 will be worth it.

Borderlands 2 was released back in 2012, and soon enough, fans were hyped for the third installment in the series. Gearbox did however release Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel back in 2014. The next installment in the franchise will be a significant step forward for the franchise according to Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox studio.

Pitchford pointed to Rockstar’s approach regarding the Grand Theft Auto series and how each game releases only a while after the previous one and this in turn allows each new installment to be innovative and fresh to fans of the franchise. With the next installment of Borderlands, Pitchford and his team seem to be following a similar route.

“If we’re going to do one, it’s going to be that,” Pitchford stated to IGN in reference to how big fans want Borderlands 3 to be, and  “that’s not something you can just cook up overnight.”

“The easiest thing in the world would be for us to churn out a lot of Pre-Sequels, and we could make a lot of money,” Pitchford stated. “But I don’t think that’s—I think we need to figure this out and do this right. So we’re going to work on it, and when we think we’ve had it—we’re not going to announce anything until we think we have something worthy of announcing. And then we’ll set expectations on that.”

While Borderlands 3 has not yet been officially announced, the studio has in the recent past implied that a lot of them are working on the latest installment in the series. It may be a while before we have any official news regarding Borderland 3’s release, but as of now, the studio’s emphasis on quality and innovation is certainly a step in the right direction.
