Halo 5: Guardians

Following on from the insane amount of hype generated by a rumour that was saying Halo 5: Guardians would arrive on November 10 of 2015, Microsoft have taken to addressing the matter directly. Which, by the way, is a bit out of character.

The rumour started off when a new hire at 343 Industries posted an image of himself on twitter. Pictured in the background is a small digital clock that says “382”. With so many people fancying themselves amateur detectives and deducer’s, they counted forward 382 days and stopped on November 10th 2015. Quite daft I know, but games have been hinted at and information revealed in this manner before.

The official line from a Microsoft representative is “The recent rumours regarding the release date of Halo 5: Guardians are false”.

Damage control or just the standard procedure of denial? It wouldn’t be the first time Microsoft did such a thing, especially after the massive data leak that occurred earlier in January this year. We’ll find out what it means in due time to stay tuned.

    I don’t see why Microsoft would even address the rumor at all. Halo has always launched in November and we know it coming in 2015 so chances are it will be November… The exact date doesn’t really matter this far out.

      It would be bad for Microsoft to have the game delayed until 2016.

      Was that even a question? Nobody said anything about 2016 but I’d prefer to wait a little longer for a better game than have a game release and be less than it should be.

      Nobody likes delays bit generally speaking they are a good thing. Look at red dead redemption. That was delayed a bunch of times and they used that time to make an amazing game.

      generally id put Halo 5 to be released soon after DX12 goes gold, because Halo is based on DX12 so the soonest release date is when DX12 goes gold and is released. DX 12 also will be releasing with windows 10. so Halo cant be any sooner than a windows 10 release because dx12 even though wont impact games at all, think MS is trying make a unified software experience so should be released simultaneously

      Halo has nothing to do with a release schedule of windows or dx12. The Xbox isn’t windows so api like DX can’t be rolled into it without the same level of compatibility testing.

      Say for example dx12 launches on PC in Dec 2015 then the Xbox version of such a thing would probably be finished around May or June.

      Developers wont be using dx12 on day 1. DX adoption takes 12ish months historically and this version is a big change so it could take even longer for games to fully utilize it. The advantage of dx12 requires totally different code than dx11. Lots of basic calls dx11 handled for a developer are no longer handled in dx12.

      ok probably will be true but at least DX 12 will go gold at least on x1 sometime next year, probably give it an extra 1-2 months for code integration. Halo 5 is the FIRST DX12 game, this is MS showcase for the technology and squeezing everything out of the X1. and tbh i really do think theyll deliver

      But like you said Dx12 in windows 10 or whatever doesnt matter because for PC games even 3rd party X1 games will take longer to come out for it.

      But at same it does matter when released because the sooner they have the SDK in there hands the sooner they can get started on it

      I have a feeling halo 5 is going to go even lower level than dx12 would allow but it will certainly share some code.

      I base that on halo 4 so its purely speculation but ive talked to some of the people who worked on engineering aspects of that game/engine and they were basically working with machine code on some of that stuff which is just…mind bogglingly insane. They pushed the 360 in ways that make halo 4 hold its own to this day visually and the mc collection is gonna showcase that. Halo 4 at 1080/60 is just stunning and all they did was up the resolution from 720p to 1080p all the textures, lighting and effects are the same. Even if someone doesn’t like the game itself they should just look at it and admire the technical expertise on display it truly is a marvel of coding.

      its different the consoles already have low level code BUT opengl is much faster becuase of the way it handles things. Look at dx12 all the unbundling and stuff all those features is how opengl works thats why its faster. With this its not going to exponentially increase power but its more effeicient in the way it handles stuff, so more experince in utilising it will reap benefits in the longer term.
