It seems that the intense competition between so many high profile game releases will benefit the industry according to Bethesda Softworks vice president, Pete Hines . He mentions that although, it is a good showcase for the gaming industry, plenty of titles may not perform as per expectations.

“It’s probably healthy for the industry because the industry gets a lot of attention when there’s all these things happening, just like the movie industry gets a lot of buzz when there’s a bunch of really big things at the movies and everyone’s talking about them all,” he told Eurogamer.

“It’s probably not healthy for everyone who has one of those titles, because as you rightly pointed out usually someone gets the short end of the stick. Someone ends up falling short and not doing quite what they expected to do.”

There are plenty of games releasing in the latter half of 2011, including Bethesda’s Skyrim and Rage, including other third-party juggernauts like Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Assassins Creed: Revelations. It’s a tough period for gamers, since they probably wont have the required funds to buy them all.

  • I hate when all those Triple AAA titles are released around the same time. They should realease titles through out the year. If a title is good it will sell no matter what time of the year it is. Also since there is no competition during certain time of year (Summer), it should do well if not better than during the christmas season.

  • so then they sue Notch, not Mojang for the word scroll in a sad sad sad attempt to try an delay Minecraft. yeeeeah Not even EA is that low. They also didn’t notice that Notch said they are considering delaying MC so it doesn’t compete with Skyrim as well as he wants to enjoy skyrim which he won’t be able to do dealing with Mc’s release.
