Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections are working on The Crew which will take the racing genre into a new direction. Instead of limiting the player to a track, the developers have opened up the entire United States for the player. The Crew is an open and persistent world for racing across the United States and due to the options it gives to the player, it can be easily termed as a car role playing game.

The game is already confirmed to be running at 1080p and 30fps on PS4 and Xbox One. Was there a specific reason why the developers did not pushed for 60fps?

“The reason is pretty straightforward. Building such a massive playground and filling it to make it a living-breathing world requires a lot of resources,”  Stephane Beley, who is the game Game Director of The Crew said to GamingBolt. “Our choice is to offer the most compelling gameplay experience possible and for that, we preferred a solid 30 FPS rather than a flimsy 60 FPS.”

We will have more coverage on The Crew in the coming days. The Crew will be out this November for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For more on the game, check out our hub page here.

they should come straight and say: the xbone can’t handle it and we want parity.

      thats exactly what they mean…

also “The reason is pretty straightforward.

in other word what they trying to say that they need to sacrifice the resources if want to achieve 60fps…thats the trade off to pursue the visual on the machine

Ahh no just look at how open fh2 is with better visuals than the crew and better physics in all area’s, tons of customization, and open world with dynamic weather, physics and lighting. Driveclub with its weather and visuals looks very good but you could compare it to ryse linear but pretty. Both pull up at 30 fps they cant do anymore, it has nothing to do with the xbox holding it back. In fact the ps4 could be holding back xbox in the near future with the introduction of dx 12, pc guys can understand why dx10 and dx11 games were a rarity for so long was because of the consoles not supporting hardware feature set available with each. And playstation being a loner using no real derivative of any api but their own, similar to opengl I suppose but still as alien to it as dx. The support servers combined with dx12 will be a killer combination only to be held back by ps4 and Sony not increasing their own server count to match, ps now will cost to much and minimum bw requirements cant be met by most countries to support a lag free experience. Don’t make stupid statements like ” they should come straight and say: the xbone can’t handle it and we want parity.”

      pretty much,.

People always seem to make it about a comparison and how weak the XB1 is over the PS4. A graphic artist mentioned to me it isn’t just about the power of the machine. A lot of the art resources can look different at different frame rates. You might need more art resources when you have a higher frame rate depending on how the art is scaled. They may not have the time before launch or have the overall resources since they are working on it for multiple platforms. It is more than just the fact that the XB1 might be holding the PS4 version back.

“we preferred a solid 30 FPS rather than a flimsy 60 FPS.”

So an unlocked 60 fps is flimsy? Please tell the again Ivory Tower. 😀

I’d Rather a locked frame rate that one that jumps all over the place. If it was about dipping 1-5 frames, it would’ve been no problem, but some of these games dip down as far as 20-40 fps during gameplay. Thats just crazy and MS and Sony have no business calling those game 60fps games. A locked frame rate is KING!
