The system requirements for Just Cause 2 have just come in, and it looks like trusty old Windows XP won’t run it.
Here are the full system requirements;
Minimum:
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Windows XP is unsupported)
- Processor: Dual-core CPU with SSE3 (Athlon 64 X2 4200 / Pentium D 3GHz)
- Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 8800 Series / ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro with 256MB memory or equivalent DX10 card with 256MB memory
- Memory: 2GB RAM

- Optical Drive: DVD-ROM drive
- Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible sound card
- Internet Connection: Internet connection required for product activation
- Input: Keyboard and mouse (Microsoft Xbox 360 controller optional)
Recommended:
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Windows XP is unsupported)
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz or AMD Phenom X3 2.4GHz
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 Series with 512MB / ATI Radeon HD 5750 Series with 512MB or equivalent DX10 card with 512MB memory

This is bad news for many, as a Steam survey conducted last month showed that 42% of Steam users still use XP.
We can also see here that the game will run on Dx10, apparently with no option for Dx9.
Just Cause 2 releases on the 23rd March for the 360, PS3 and PC.

Bad news for the developers of Just Cause 2. I don’t know too many people that are going to upgrade their operating system just to play a game. Looks like those developers are losing 42% of their market share

I was reluctant to upgrade, but seriously win 7 is the best.
I played crysis, fallout 3, dragon age origin on this thing and it’s flawless.
I also run photoshop 64bit, maya 64 bit, torrent apps, every video player, everything.
Win 7 is solid and fast.
XP was good, 7 is great.

It’s not that it won’t support XP, it’s that it only supports Direct X 10. Direct X 10 is not officially supported in XP, but that’s M$ tryin to create reasons to upgrade. You can hack it to run on XP…. just install DX10. Use google, stop whining.

But how many of that 42% are actual gamers? I know a lot of people that got on Steam just to play the likes of Peggle, Plants vs Zombies, etc on their XP netbooks. Even if that’s not the case, why should developers still have to support a 9 year old OS? If someone with a PC from 2001 complained they couldn’t run the latest upcoming PC games they would be laughed at. It’s time to move on, lol

If you look at the (linked) survey you will see that almost 95% of survey participants have an ATI or nVidia graphics card, with the rest being Intel or Other, indicating most people in the survey do indeed have proper gaming systems.

I’m a steam user on XP and I’m at “actual” gamer. I won’t bother “upgrading” for this though

You can get Direct 10 X to run on XP, gamers know how to do it. XP is a nice system and certainly better than Vista. It is a strange they would release such a statement.

I don’t believe this.
My computer is 3 years old, but it has better hardware than the computer that a friend of mine has. Which is 2 months old.

Everyone who says that the DirectX for XP works with Just Cause 2 lies, it doesn’t. It still says “You need a newer version of Windows” or something like that. Let’s just hope that in the future someone will come up with a fix or a patch or something for this game to get it working on XP.

XP isn’t the one thats having problem with games like the saboteur. No windows 7 for me until they make it stable enough for gamers. If you really want to play this game you will have to deal with crash to desktops.
