EA Sports have confirmed that Madden 18 will be launching later this year, for the Xbox One and PS4 (no, no Nintendo Switch version of the game just yet). It will also be the very first game in the series to use the Frostbite Engine- until now, the games had been using the EA Ignite engine. Though fellow EA Sports alum FIFA made the jump to Frostbite last year, Madden had thus far been sticking to the proprietary engine instead.

Madden 18 ditches the old engine for the new- but that’s not the only notable thing about this installment. Its cover athlete will be none other than NFL superstar Tom Brady, who was instrumental in the Patriots winning the Super Bowl earlier this year.

“The Madden NFL 18 cover is a great honor for me,” said Brady. “Especially since I have been playing the game since growing up next to EA headquarters in the Bay Area. I’m not one to believe in curses, so I’m ready to take the challenge head on like always! It doesn’t stand a chance!!!” he added, humorously referring to the so called Madden curse, which affects the career of every football star who shows up on the games’ covers.

Madden NFL 18 will launch on the PS4 and Xbox One on August 25.
