Magnetic: Cage Closed To Run At 720p/60fps On PS4/Xbox One, Devs Not Fans of ‘Cinematic Experience’

“We are not fans of the whole ‘cinematic experience’,” says Daniel Ström, CEO of Guru Games.

Magnetic: Cage Closed

Daniel Ström, CEO of Guru Games, recently spoke to GamingBolt on the matter of resolution and frame rate concerning games. In his own words, it’s quite a “hot topic these days”, as players come to expect more and more from their games hardware that seems to constantly not meet their expectations.

With Guru Games latest title, Magnetic: Cage Closed set to drop on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, he took the time out to let us know that the game will be running at 720p at 60fps on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Daniel said, “Framerate is always a hot topic these days, and naturally we have optimized the game to run as well as it can on consoles. We are not fans of the whole “cinematic experience”-thing that has been going around, so we aim for a smooth 60 fps throughout the game. We are most likely staying at 720p for this reason.”

Frankly speaking, not every game needs to be “cinematic” and most actually tend to suffer from trying to be like their big screen counterpart. Need I remind you of the recent mixed bag that was The Order: 1886? But what are your thoughts on this matter? Let us know in the comments section below.

On a related note, stay tuned for our full preview of the game later next week. Magnetic: Cage Closed. a first person puzzle game comes out next month on Steam and later on the PS4 and Xbox One.

720p on PS4!?!?!? On the F***KING PS4!??!!? Someone buy me a ticket of this planet, with this news this world “wont last 2 more days”.

  • TheSolution

In come the: “Microsoft paid the devs for parity SPDF”

  • Failz

Woah so many cry babies, Console hardware can only do so much, Games will only start pushing more and more out of these systems, if your expecting 1080p on all the titles, then you have no common sense. PC gaming allows for these options guaranteed. Lol kids have no idea how this industry is ran.

    • Jecht_Sin

So much like MGS5 at 1080p60fps on PS4? It seems to me that’s this Daniel Ström whom can only do so much. Obviously he isn’t Kojima.

Not that I really care, they can keep their ugly FPS. :p

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

      :^)

    • Josh101

HAHAHAHAHAHA. You can see the photo-shopped artifacts on the PS4 shot!! It doesn’t look like that at all. Nice try though. :^)

      https://www . youtube . com/watch?v=r2Brr4fmh0c

You can see the same scene as this picture you posted with false advertisement at 1:08-1:14 in the video. 😀 Weeeeee!!! Idiot.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Ask Digital Foundry to stop “photoshopping”, loser

Oh wait, you keep denying reality that PC is superior :^)

    • Josh101

Apparently you didn’t watch the video. The video proves this picture false. Which I posted as proof. Anyone can watch the video and see the side by side video of this EXACT scene at 1:08-1:14. :^) Matter of fact after examining closely, it seems to be a artifact that pops up at the end of the camera panning. The helmets and resolution seem to go out of focus at the end of the camera pan. Before that very moment those helmets and the resolution of everything around it is on par with the PC version. You can see this exact deviation from 1:10-1:11 in the video. So what you and digital foundry have posted is a anomaly and isn’t representative of the actual game. :^)

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Nope. Its in the video. PS4 has LOD issues as found by Digital Foundry. Better check your eyes, loser :^)

    • Josh101

I did check, I even told you EXACTLY what to look for in the game and when. I have proof. That is a graphic anomaly like I said. Before the camera pan it was on par with the PC.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Nope, LOD issues are still there. Keep thinking its a photoshop, blind loser :^)

    • Josh101

For ONE second. The helmets and resolution don’t look like that any other time as your screenshot of one second leads on. 🙂 You were owned, admit it and move on. Maybe you will think twice next time :^)

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Lying and screaming doesn’t change Digital Foundry’s findings, loser :^)

    • Josh101

Lying? How am I lying? Anyone can click on that video and see what I say is absolute fact. :^)

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

I can see the pointy helmets clear as day on that video, loser

    • Josh101

Yep, for one second 1:10-1:11 :^)

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

There are there all the time, loser

    • Josh101

No they are not hahahahahahahha. You don’t have to lie or maybe you do to make yourself feel better. Anyone can look at that video and see that it is only at that time. Before then the PS4 has better textures and the characters look better. :^) Also, “There are there?” Someone needs to go back to school.

    • Failz

Just like the Witcher 3 and even UC4.
I wouldn’t be talking too early about MGS5 either. When more games start being design around PC hardware, your consoles wont keep up. 1080p/60 is not standard this gen.

  • Mr Xrat

Wolfenstein had an elegant solution – locked 60fps but the resolution scaled instead, and guess what? It performed better on the PS4. A far better compromise than this.

    • Thad Vanity

      That’s so 2015….

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Poor shill upset his garbage hardware can’t play games at 2015 standards.

The next few years are going to be very long for you.

    • Josh101

Considering Driveclub, it completely owns every racing game currently available on PC. You’re wrong. :^)

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

      Ayyyyyy lmao

Drivedud can’t stand up to Trackmania, Project CARS or Assetto Corsa, loser :^)

    • Josh101

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH YEAA SURE. Showing a picture where it was a clip that switched and didn’t have the chance to load the assets. That was a replay, not even in-game. Good try though. Do you think we are idiots? Apparently you are dumb, posting above a screenshot of Driveclub thinking it’s a PC game lmao.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

      Still in game, moron :^)

Also it looks garbage and lol 30FPS

    • Josh101

A replay is not in game idiot. Are you serious? You have to be retarded. Garbage A** , it looks better than Project cars and has more polygons per car than the console version. It matches the PC version in polygons and textures. Has wayyy more effects than Project cars as well, including fully render individual raindrops that are affected by G-force and mirages to boot. Project cars or Assetto can’t touch Driveclub in graphics.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Project Cars is getting better than Driveclub rain as a post launch update only on PC. It already looks better and runs better than Drivedud. Now it will destroy Drivedud :^)

    • Josh101

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH awhhhh are your wittle feelwings hurt because you owned yourself on your posts? How deliciously hilarious. :^) Driveclub has no match in graphical prowess. It completely owns Project Cars.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Ah yes, twisting words to make your garbage game look better. Project CARS looks better on PC and is 60FPS. Keep crying, loser :^)

  • ImOnaDrugCalledSheen

“Not Fans of ‘Cinematic Experience’”, gee I wonder what developer that was leveled at, couldn’t be one that recently released a very cinematic game that got critically panned now could it?

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Well this looks like a game while The Odor was an 800P press x to win cancer upon gaming so they are completely correct

  • stranger

PS4 is easily capable of running noname game in 1080p@60fps, pc devs aren’t capable of optimizing, PS4 is a beast when used right, only fanboys would argue.

    • Ebola-Chan✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

Depends on your definition of a beast. I’d consider it to be alright but not a beast. It’s using an APU though so there’s not much to expect from it.

    • Psionicinversion

the consoles have a really hard time running any game at 60fps fact. PS4 is a not a beast when used right. The Order will have tapped out most of that power and to get those visuals it basically had to sacrifice the game

    • Josh101

Say that to Killzone Shadowfall. Which was launch title. It didn’t struggle at all and had stunning visuals.

    • Psionicinversion

stunning to a console gamer. Sometimes when you were flying over the city buildings had no AA at all becuase they looked like a sandstorm had blown past and cut em up

    • Josh101

Proof? What is this “sometimes when you fly over buildings?” That was a cutscene and the buildings looked good. No jaggies present. The only other time was when you flew over the crumbling city. Where dust was kicked up from the building collapsing. That game was magnificent. A graphical powerhouse. The particle effects in that game alone were amazing. Wonders of GPGPU compute. 🙂

    • Psionicinversion

Proof? My eyes. I looked alright not that impressive. Funny how you bring up GPGPU compute when pc has tons more. Soon as the games use it properly it’s going make the ps4 look like something a child drew. Newest gpu’s this year 8.6TFLOP of compute performance

    • Josh101

Oh, so subjective opinion is your proof. Gotcha. Funny you mention that, because GPGPU compute has not been feasible for modern PC’s without unified GPU/CPU. Which is now possible on a massive scale because of Sony’s PS4, which is coupled with GDDR5 ram. Making it more likely that games will start using GPGPU compute. A lot of PS4 games already use it. Some of which are Infamous, Knack, Killzone Shadowfall, MLB14/15. Name the games on PC using GPGPU compute? PC’s are using GPGPU compute for crunching data, but it’s not feasible in games considering the architecture is not unified. The PS4’s architecture IS. Therefore, there are more games on the PS4 using GPGPU compute than on PC. Good try though.

    • Psionicinversion

Wrong unified memory has got nothing to do with it. Fact is until the consoles can use it developers are not willing to do it because its a waste of time. Most NVIDIA gameworks is now using compute for the effects, cryengines effects are now using compute, unreal is probably using compute as well. Those Sony games need to use GPGPU because the cpu is incredibly weak. It needs to keep as much data crunching away from the cpu as possible

Star citizen will be using gpgpu because its all part of cryengine anyway. Until then have to wait for the multiplats to start using it

    • Josh101

No it’s not wrong. Unified memory has a lot to do with it. Consoles, more specifically PS4 will and has been using it because of just this. The XboxOne will hold GPGPU compute as hostage because of the relatively weak GPU and non-unified architecture. Ubisoft did a presentation at the GDC showing just this.

      http://www.redgamingtech.com/ubisoft-gdc-presentation-of-ps4-x1-gpu-cpu-performa
      nce/

    • Psionicinversion

yeah ive seen the ubisoft thing, it porbably doubles becuase it should be 50% higher becuase of the extra 50% compute units then obviously the GDDR5 pushes it an extra 50%.

The xbox one does have a unified architecture its just different to ps4

    • Josh101

Yeah this is true. The major difference is with XboxOne they have the ESRAM to mitigate and it’s not direct like the PS4. Which will divide 3rd party developers. They aren’t going to use GPGPU compute in multiplatform games because it’s extra work and won’t be easy to work with on XboxOne due to the weaker GPU. 1st party games have shown they work wonders using GPGPU compute and it will show even more in the coming years. Compare the launch titles of PS3 to the later games. What we see now is nothing compared to 3 or 4 years down the road. It’s going to be INSANE.

    • Psionicinversion

everybody makes the same arguement, and its flawed because PS3’s SDK was absolute trash, the instructions only came in japanese (apparently) and they had to work with the cell for the first time. so it took them years to get to grips with it. This time there getting tons of power out of it straight away, there used to multithreaded programming and its basic x86 what they learned to code for in the first place when they were learning programming. Seriously its not going get wildly better at least not PS3 style wildly better, its just not. Its amazing how nobody can see this

GPGPU will be fine on the Xbox one, you can just scale back the GPU workload and push the rest through the CPU. its the PC you have to look at until everyones running on this virtual unified memory system which may take quite a long time. If it only needs a pascal GPU id say 5 years.

If there is another console then there wont be any problems as they will both be using stacked HBM. MS cant go with like DDR4+eSRAM configuration when HBM is running at 1 TeraByte per second.

MS only went this route becuase they thought GDDR5 would still be to expensive but Sony were lucky that there was a breakthrough in densities that reduced the cost of manufacture way down but of course when youve been designing a system around a certain architecture its hard to change it.

Also if you look at the die layouts the only reason why the xbox GPU is so weak is because the eSRAM takes up like 1/3rd of the die so no more room for compute units….. so if there is another consoles they will be very very similar in performance as HBM plonks down ontop of the APU

    • Josh101

“GPGPU will be fine on the Xbox one, you can just scale back the GPU workload and push the rest through the CPU.”
For 3rd party developers this is not the case. It isn’t that simple at ALL. When you are focusing on one machine’s SDK, this would be true. But in the case of Assassins Creed Unity, they gimped ALL versions because of the XboxOne. IF they XboxOne was up to par, GPU wise, they would have used GPGPU compute for the AI. They didnt’ because it would have been a completely different game and wouldn’t be able to straight port to XboxOne. So, they used XboxOne as the lowest common denominator and ported to all other systems.

    • Psionicinversion

Well Ubisoft did say that npc wasn’t the cause of the problem at all. Tbh the ai would be so simple it wouldn’t of taxed a snapdragon. You want complex AI go look at Ashes of the Singularity that’s complex AI. The main problem with unity with the absolutely atrocious optimisation of the game. It says something when they have to go rerender Paris because it was such a performance hog also it was the online connectivity side that caused alot problems as some ps4 users told me if you disconnect from the internet so the coop side doesn’t work you regain alot of fps. So trying to drag xbox through the mud is completely unfounded

    • Josh101

Actually no. That GDC GPGPU compute article I posted confirms just this. They said AI is CPU bound and proved themselves wrong with the GDC demonstration. Which they locked resolution of the PS4 and XboxOne to 900P to “Avoid all the debates and stuff.” They shot themselves in the foot with that. Basically proving that Microsoft’s GPU is holding back ALL platforms. In which they could have used GPGPU compute on PC and PS4 and ported to it across to XboxOne. But instead, they apparently wrote the game to the lowest common denominator, XboxOne and ported it to PS4 and PC.

    • Psionicinversion

Well you said GPGPU is really hard on pc so they won’t use it, so how can you say one thing and then say another doesn’t make any sense

    • Josh101

No, I never said that. I said it wasn’t feasible on a mass scale because they don’t have unified architecture with GDDR5 like the PS4. Now that they have a product, the PS4, they can make games using GPGPU compute and can brute force on a PC. The exact quote from my post is as follows: “Funny you mention that, because GPGPU compute has not been feasible for modern PC’s without unified GPU/CPU. Which is now possible on a massive scale because of Sony’s PS4, which is coupled with GDDR5 ram. Making it more likely that games will start using GPGPU compute.”

    • Psionicinversion

Ah right hahaha that’s what I said that it was a waste of time doing it on pc because consoles couldn’t do it so waste of resources thing. Think were arguing about the same thing hahaha. Either way yeah funneling through a PC’s capability is a big thing because this is how under utilised aPC is not only because it wasn’t low level it couldn’t extract the performance and because it can’t use the compute capabilities that had been around for the last 3-4 years until now PC is going to seriously start getting some major performance gains

    • Josh101

We are on the same page!! Weeee!!!!!! But now we have to think of the XboxOne with it’s relatively weak GPU. Multiplatform games won’t be using much, if any, GPGPU compute because of XboxOne. So, we are still basically boned when it comes to GPGPU compute. Hence, why I said the PS4’s 1st party games will show the benefit of GPGPU compute more than 3rd party games. Which will probably just make the game for the XboxOne and port it, poorly, to the other consoles and PC. Last generation all over again.

    • Psionicinversion

It’s not entirely MS fault they made a bad choice. Cerny had 2 choices to go the same route as MS or go the GDDR route. They chose the GDDR route and took a gamble which paid off. Tbh if cerny had of gone MS route they would be the same console because esram takes up so much space there was nothing left for more compute units.

Still holding pc back though because if the consoles were more powerful and games catered to that and forced the cheap pc gpu parts out people would be forced to upgrade that’s how you make progress bit as it stands with multiplats it doesn’t need to be heck. A 270x batters the ps4 so no point for people to upgrade

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

This guy is a full on shill anyway. Shouldn’t waste your time on peasants screaming GPGPU is a magic bullet that makes PS4 somehow better than PC. GPGPU needs a non garbage GPU above 2TF anyway.

    • Psionicinversion

Hmm maybe your right actually but when Intel and NVIDIA put out there virtual unified memory, seeing as the cpu needs the hardware to do it and might not debut until cannonlake with 80GBs link between cpu to the gpu and no copying of data between system ram and gpu ram and the code should be in windows 10 to do it then should break down that barrier for the pc.

    • Anthony Joubran

Yeah, you idiots were lied to when you found out the multiplayer isn’t actually 1080p LMAO proves you guys can’t tell the difference between XB1 and PS4 versions of a game, when you didn’t even realize the multi-player was 960p not 1080p. So those 900p games on the XB1 that you claim are so inferior to your 1080p versions really aren’t.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

      “WAAAAAAAAH ITS THE DEVELOPERS FAULT”

Your tears over your buyers remorse nourish me.

  • brianc6234

Just more wanting the game to be the same on both consoles. Or lazy developers who can’t push hardware.

  • Freethinker

My thoughts are WHEN is Magnetic coming to PS4, I thought it was on May 26 but it was not.
