Major PS4 Bug Locks Out Digital Content, Prevents License Restoration, Several Accounts Affected

Sony support team says that there is no ETA on the fix.

GamingBolt’s reviews/previews contributor Philip Hartmeyer came across a very unusual bug when was he trying to review Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! on the PlayStation 4. After downloading the game, Philip started the game and was unfortunately greeted with “Cannot start the application. (CE-34632-8)”. Usually this error is resolved by restoring the licenses but this time around restoring did not worked.

His network connection was fine and the secondary account on his PlayStation 4 had no such errors. In short, the primary account got affected. On calling PlayStation support, Philip was asked to do a full initialization of the console which meant that he had to delete his save files, games and apps. But that did not worked. The support staff finally told him that this is a known issue and there is no apparent fix for the same. The support staff also revealed that other user accounts have been affected too. Apparently this bug also affects all other applications like Netflix and Amazon Prime. In short, the user’s primary account on the PlayStation 4 is completely locked out.

After initialization, Philip downloaded all his stuff again but the issue persists. You can read more about this issue in a post he made on Neogaf. Sony pushed out a stability patch a couple of days ago but it seems that this issue went under the radar.

    This is an interesting bug. I’m very curious as to why its happening. The system has 2 checks before you can play a game and as long as it passes one of them you are good. It checks the serial number of the console and as long as it matches the serial that purchased the game it loads and If that fails it check your license on psn.

    There must be an error in the checksum that’s attached to the game on the console itself which causes it to fail both checks but the interesting question is why and how that checksum doesn’t match up with account records.

    Does anyone know how long this bug has been active? How long Sony has known about it? What percentage of users it effects and of those users how many digitally signed games or files refuse to launch?

      A Sony Account Rep told me over the phone that I wasn’t the only one, but I have no seen anyone else online post that they have had this issue.

    Guys chill, don’t troll. That sucks, full time, for anyone man. Honestly, that isn’t even funny to wish or make fun of someone’s games and services breaking. I have an Xbox but man up people. Sony should get on this pronto though.

    Same here… And I’ve also posted over at Sony customer support forums.. LOTS 9f people are having this problem… All digital content has locked me out. Over $700 spent in games & DLC & services are currently useless…

    This happens to me all the god damn time. I get shut out of netflix and all my digital games. I really hope they fix it soon because there is literally nothing I can do when it happens.
