Mass Effect 4 To Have Emotionally Believable Characters With Photorealistic Graphics

A job listing suggests so.

The chances are good that if you played Mass Effect 3 and enjoyed it, then you played it multiple times. And if that’s the case, you know full well that the game can rip your heart strings clean out of your chest. The series has always been something of an emotional sledgehammer and Bioware know it.

They know it so well in fact that in their job listings for the next Mass Effect or Mass Effect 4, they specifically ask for someone that can create “emotionally believable characters that allow game players to interact with the game, whether photorealistic or stylized, in a realistic and believable fashion.”

We all know that Mass Effect can deliver the feels. Without saying anything that would spoil the game, you need only think back to that moment on the cliff face with the Quarians and Geth. Or when you’re in a certain tower with a certain doctor. The list goes on, but here’s hoping that whomever gets the Senior Cinematic Animator BioWare Montreal understands the series and the characters found therein.

Mass Effect 4 does not have a release date but according to the rumor mill, it’s expected to launch sometime next year on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

This is good and bad news. The good is that they aren’t re-using animations from ME1 (as they have done throughout the ME series and DAI). The bad is the development of ME4 may be longer than we hoped. I hope I’m wrong about that.

I really don’t want to hear anything from this development of Mass Effect unless it involves different choices having REAL different outcomes. That’s the core of what made this series. Our choices need to matter period. That’s why the last game Mass Effect 3 failed. Heart stings? Are you serious? Your choices did not matter. If this development team hasn’t fixed that, this series is dead to me.

    • Dirkster_Dude

I would say the choices mattered right up until the end where you were told “Thank you for playing” – “Now please die” if you don’t pick my “suboptimal ending because I say that is the only way to survive ending”. This was despite the fact that you were winning. That is what really irritated me.

I liked it, the ultimate sacrifice, the ultimate hero.

    • Dirkster_Dude

I didn’t mind dying, but when my choice means everyone else dies along with me it is no choice at all. Made me feel like the last 3 games I had invested my time in was worthless, which is why all the backlash.

    • Zarbor

The choices we made in game one and game two also had no bearing in the final game as well.

    • Dirkster_Dude

I had my previous characters imported. The individual characters I encountered and their personal stories played out differently, but the course of the war was essentially the same. For example, the Geth and Talia’s people worked together as opposed to 1 or the other annihilating each other. I didn’t have to make the choice on which people go to live because of my imported save. Not sure how it could have been different until the end, except at the very and where they gave you a choice that was no choice at all. Made everything that went before feel worthless.

  • Dirkster_Dude

Mass Effect 4 has had no trouble making characters emotionally believable so it doesn’t surprise me they would advertize for such a position.
