The official Twitter feed for Metal Gear has revealed interesting new details about Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. First of all, the developers confirmed that the story mode of Metal Gear Solid 5 will be longer than the previous games in the series, not to mention the fact that side missions will further extend the game’s playthrough length.

The developers also confirmed that Snake cannot swim in the game but can obviously walkthrough water, shallow streams and anything where his feet can touch the ground. Furthermore, if you need to play and build your own Forward Operating Base, you would need PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold. However FOBs can be developed and customized even if you are offline or you can skip FOB all together and be offline.

The developers hinted that the eye wear in the game may be customizable. While Snake wears outfits that might change his eyewear, the players cannot select separate eyewear in-game. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is due on September 1st, 2015 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

Can’t even swim…. open world aye?

    • Mike G

I remember when he was thrown off the bridge in Snake Eater, I don’t think he could swim then as he nearly drowned lol.

  • Zarbor

Between not being able to swim (which is laughable), attaching parachute to anything to zip back to mother base and the overall weird story….I just can’t get into this game. MGS2 was the last game I enjoyed in the series. Open world looks great but I don’t think from what I’ve seen, that it helped much

there is no water in the game except for small puddles.

    • Braden Gunn

And the massive sea surrounding Mother Base.

    • DiamondDogs1

Sucks for you. There’s not even any swimming areas in the game. It’s Afghan and jungle Africa, why would you need to swim. Overal weird story? You do realize this is like probably the most impornt game to date story wise?

Its supposed to bridge gaps between the modern metal gear and older.
Mgs2 was the last you enjoyed seriously?

By all means do buy this game if you don’t like what you see. Personally, I love everything I’ve seen so far in regards to story and gameplay mechanics.

Wow, mgs3 was the best in the series for me

    • The Batman

MGS2 is the best. It’s proof video games can be art.

    • RenatoFontesTapia

For me MGS3 was the proof that video games can be art =P

Can not swim? The game is clearly a Red Dead Redemption rip-off!.

  • Metal Gear Solid 1 – Swims into base to start mission. —– Cannot Swim 4 sequels later.

Still will be purchased, no big deal.

    • Malkev Malkavian

Dude… not same year on timeline and not even the same character.

    • lol stfu idiot timelines have nothing to do with it

    • Jesse Hawker

MGS1 and MGS5 feature different characters. Big Boss has never been able to swim. Just play any MGS game that features him.

    • Malkev Malkavian

lol, sure, tell that to uncle Ben.

    • Dio Brando

Metal Gear Solid 1: You play as Solid Snake in 2005
Metal Gear Solid 5: You play as Big Boss (aka Punished “Venom” Snake who is Solid Snake’s genetic father) in 1984.
At least pretend you have an iota of intelligence.

  • Wow you can’t swim?! OMG THIS GAME MUST SUCK WORST OPEN WORLD GAME EVER!!11one!!

  • InvisiGhost

kinda odd but most games f^k up swimming looks amazing regardless and they finally stepped back to its origins-gameplay style..water is a good change of scenery but if there is none so be it..
