No Man's Sky

There has been a lot of controversy around No Man’s Sky– the game promised a lot, and while the final product is worth a playthrough, it still is a far cry from what we were told to expect. Among the many omissions and misleading promises, it was assumed that gigantic creatures of the sort that had been shown in the game’s E3 demos were included, too.

However, a player on Reddit is posting that giant creatures, of a similar size to the ones in the game’s E3 showing, are in the final game, too- they just happen to be very rare. The player in question has shared a video of them stumbling upon one such creature (you can see it below). The creatures are apparently listed by the game as being under 6 meters tall.

So, of all the many misleading marketing statements made about No Man’s Sky, this one was definitely not one, it seems like. No Man’s Sky is available on PS4 and PC.

15 hours on ps4. 45 on steam. Combine that with friends we are well into the thousands of hours.

None of us..not one has seen one of these large creatures and considering I’ve stopped playing altogether although I may revisit with some mods chances are I’ll never seen them

I went ahead and watched the center of the galaxy ending. Its an insult. Don’t bother.

The game is a shell. As a $15-20 indie title it would have been good but with all the lies and the $60 price tag the game is unacceptable and the only way to fix it is dlc which will cost money.

I think I’ll devote more time to elite dangerous which essentially does what this does but better then in 2 years…star citizen

    • kee1haul

That still isnt the giant sand worm thing. We know those demos were scripted now. Elite will continue to develop for years. Star Citizen seems to want to launch complete.

    • d0x360

I think they will end up releasing star citizen before its done but its gonna be hard because Roberts is a genuine perfectionist. I can’t blame him but I think he needs some staff that will challenge him instead of always agree.

I hold out hope but I don’t give it a ton of thought. In fact I ignore it unless a big unveil happens. Makes waiting easier.

    • kee1haul

I’m deliberately not looking into Star Citizen too much. I’m happy to wait for completion. But yes, perfectionists can be difficult.

    • d0x360

Im keeping my distance too. I bought a $30 ship after the Kickstarter and I’ll download some of the major milestone builds to check it out but other than that I pay little attention.

I expect a development time of about 5 years for what they are building at minimum and I also expect some features will come post launch which is fine as long as the core gameplay is solid and its fun to play.

I watched the recent hour demo and it all looked pretty cool and its nice to see they got alot of the major tech issues working like transitioning from one physical object to another which sounds easy but this is a couple levels beyond what any normal game has attempted. It wouldn’t be much fun if the ship you were walking in started flying and you clipped through it and being able to transition between any physical object already inside another physical object is really cool and complex.

That said I think the people who have given thousands of dollars are a bit crazy but hey if their money brings me a game I can enjoy who am I to complain?

    • Psionicinversion

Star Citizen… the mecca of pc gaming 😀 have to keep the hype in check because nothing ever lives upto the hype. but should be pretty good and it shows what a dev can do when a game is built for pc only, no downgrades here

    • d0x360

My thoughts exactly. I generally try to keep a good distance from any game I want. I’ll watch the unveil and every few months have a glance at anything new but letting yourself get all hyped up always leads to let down so it’s best to always keep expectations tempered, enjoy what’s out to play now and just wait.

    • Psionicinversion

but i tell you what when they showed that planet entry was absolutely amazing. Theyve nailed that perfectly and you see the fire flowing over its shields to, perfect. Cant wait to see the v2 planet tech at citizencon but im expecting at citizencon to show that for maybe 15 minutes or so. A brand new SQ42 trailer and maybe some gameplay

    • J.j. Barrington

      lol, nobody believes your words.

    • Overload

He’s got a point though. I’m a bigger Sony fanboy than you and even I feel lied to.

    • J.j. Barrington

      You’re a troll, and a bad one.

  • Mr Xrat

So much for that Leddit list.

    • SpeakTruthAlways

One thing crossed of the list doesn’t make it redundant, Sean Murray still lied.

I knew Sony fanboys were defensive but this is on an entirely new level.

    • J.j. Barrington

But MUCH of the list has been crossed off. And this is EXACTLY why the list was crap to begin with: not having seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, especially when the search area is so massive.

That’s before getting into the stuff that was mentioned, or possible, but never claimed.

    • SpeakTruthAlways

Anyone who defends this game in any way shape or form is a moron (and most likely a Sony fanboy).

Hope Steam users get their money back.

To think that Sony would distribute this game on PS4 even when they knew the condition of the game and the false advertising.

“Anyone who defends this game in any way shape or form is a moron”

Wow. You’re not full of yourself, at all.

Oh, and no need to address what was said. Just insult people and claim you’re right, even when someone’s poked holes in your argument.

So much for speaking the truth, huh?

    • SpeakTruthAlways

      1) I din’t address your comment because your argument is stupid. Making a feature so rare don’t only a very few people can experience it makes no sense at all. No ship battles, no moving freighters, can’t land on asteroids, can’t destroy space stations and fleets. The list goes on.

      2) The Reddit list gets edited accordingly when people discover new things (wouldn’t hold my breath for the feature above though).

      3) The only hole that’s poked is Sony’s meat stick up your a**.

      4) Did you watch the video? I doubt it.

    • J.j. Barrington

” Making a feature so rare don’t only a very few people can experience it makes no sense at all.”

It’s randomly generated, you moron. It’s not “made rare.” It just doesn’t happen with any predictability.

“No ship battles, no moving freighters, can’t land on asteroids, can’t destroy space stations and fleets.”

Pretty sure there HAVE been ship battles.

“The Reddit list gets edited accordingly when people discover new things”

Which one of the reasons why it was a pointless list in the first place. The list creator and plenty of others like yourself were either naive or stupid to think EVERYTHING would be available to EVERYONE frequently in a game containing so much space. And, again, it’s a list that’s made of everything that could possibly have been in the game, not everything that Murray and crew said WOULD be in the game.

      “The only hole that’s poked”

It’s sad that this is the best you can do.

    • SpeakTruthAlways

Can’t believe you’re still defending that POS game. Oh I forgot to mention, NO multiplayer. Guess that’s randomly generated too huh? Moron.

“And, again, it’s a list that’s made of everything that could possibly have been in the game, not everything that Murray and crew said WOULD be in the game.”

When a dev gets asked about features in a game in an interview, they usually answer ‘no’, ‘yes’ or ‘can’t comment on that’. But Sean said ‘yes’ to almost everything when he should have said no. That’s the whole point.

Sean Murray lied to everyone, end of story. You can’t argue against facts.

    • J.j. Barrington

You don’t have any facts to argue against. You have contrived “points” that aren’t actually real.

Your whole argument is based on people getting themselves hyped up and then letting themselves down, and then deciding to blame everyone but themselves for the disconnect.

By all means, carry on, though. The world needs its idiots and ignorant followers.

    • SpeakTruthAlways

Just watch the video. Like I said, you can’t argue against facts. Sean Murray shouldn’t have been the spokesperson for Hello Games, he’s either a liar or he has no idea what he’s talking about.

    • J.j. Barrington

Starts off wrong, since.. well, the demos weren’t the same ones.

Fails again by asking “What do I do?” when you’re already TOLD that.

Two and a half minutes in, the video’s already wrong twice. Sorry, but not gonna sit through another 14 minutes of me being right.

    • SpeakTruthAlways

      You’re a lost cause.

    • J.j. Barrington

You most certainly are. As soon as you stated as fact- and there can be no other interpretation- that people were stupid or fanboys for liking or defending the game, you told any and all readers everything they needed to know.

    • J.j. Barrington

Sorry I can’t buy into the BS like you can. No worries, though: seems there are plenty of people unable to think for themselves that you’ll feel right at home with.

… however, you may want to change that name of yours, since what you say is based more on hyperbole and intentional misinformation than truth.

    • Hamuta

You don’t even realise do you… it’s sad

    • J.j. Barrington

That he’s a poor excuse for… whatever he’s supposed to be?

      No, I realize that.

    • Psionicinversion

increasing size by 500% doesnt = what was first shown

    • Keith_Bishop

A see what you mean, and I agree. The ones seen in the trailers and such very clearly designed as large creatures. This is clearly another random mish-mash of animal parts which just happens to be very big.

  • Dynasty2021

Already a mod for this on PC.

And Valve/Steam are ignoring their own 2-hour playtime return policy and giving refunds to all NMS buyers.

That’s how bad this game is – a company changed its’ own refunds policy to make people happy.

  • Psionicinversion

what was that second thing? thats not any dinosaur thats lived on this planet and just by increasing its size doesnt make it good. Wheres the brontosaurus? wheres the triceratops charging through the trees?

  • Sergio Junior

this is a mod to make the animals bigger nice try fanboys instead of defending blindly an unfinished product you should be demanding the developers to make it right!!!i am not an hater but i do hope they fix and finish the game that was promised to earn the trust back from a lot of gamers who bought the product and like myself feel disappointed such a let down the game has so much potencial it’s all up to the devs now!!
