When Exodus was announced at The Game Awards last December, it was none other than actor Matthew McConaughey who unveiled the game on-stage. At the time, it was revealed that he was playing a major character in the game, though since then, further details on the role he will play have been scarce.

In a recently uploaded Q&A, developer Archetype Entertainment shed a little bit more light on that front. Studio co-founder and executive producer Chad Robertson, for instance, says the way McConaughey has been used in the game is “going to surprise a lot of people in a very exciting way.”

“I think the coolest thing is the number of theories we’ve seen pop up about how Matthew plays a role in our game,” Roberston said. “Ultimate, his usage in the game, we think, is going to surprise a lot of people in a very exciting way.”

Studio co-founder and executive creative director James Ohlen also chimed in, revealing that McConaughey’s character will “have a big presence” throughout the game’s story, even including its epilogue.

“Matthew’s role in the game is a really important one,” Ohlen said. “[His] character will have a big presence in the game, from the very start until the very end, and the epilogue of the game. He’s just doing some amazing work so far, and we love that he’s on the team. There’s also a twist with his character, of course, because you know how much we love twists.”

During the Q&A, Ohlen and Robertson also revealed details on the many alien species you will encounter throughout your journey in Exodus. Read more on that through here.

Exodus is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. For more details on the game, make sure to check out our interview with Narrative Director Drew Karpyshyn.
