‘Photorealism Is An Inevitability,’ Says Dev On Potential PS5

“I’m not so fussed about what’s in the box, I’m more interested in the games.”

15 Ways to Enhance Your Experience on PS4 and Xbox One

While the big consoles right now are the PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Xbox Scorpio, eventually there will be full fledged successors to these systems- a theoretical PS5 and Xbox Two, maybe. When they happen, just what kinds of performance and graphical upgrades are we expecting from them, especially considering where we already stand with our present day tech?

That was the question we raised to Jamie Fisher, Producer at Climax Studios for Surf World Series when we had the chance to chat with him- does he feel, for instance, that a potential PS5 will be able to achieve photorealistic visuals? Will the tech upgrade be big enough?

“I’m not so fussed about what’s in the box, I’m more interested in the games,” Fisher mused in response. “So my wish for the next hardware iterations is just that people keep making good stuff for them. Photorealism is an inevitability. If we keep increasing the power of our gaming hardware, which is something we 100% will continue to do, we’ll eventually reach a level where the visuals of a game are capable of photorealism; whether it’s the next generation or not. But, for me, it’s not something that I’m all that drawn to. I would personally be more drawn to a game with a well-crafted or interesting or cohesive aesthetic over one that looked real.”

Fisher also chipped in on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One Scorpio, discussing them from a costumer standpoint. “I’m not remotely qualified to speak on that from a business standpoint,” he said. “But as a consumer, I’d be miffed if the console I bought in the last 3 years was suddenly obsolete. The move to a more iterative model for home consoles is an interesting proposition. So long as the time for which a given generation of a given platform is supported makes owning one worthwhile, and that said support is good; then I don’t see any major issue.”

On the whole, I have to say these are very well weighted and reasoned responses, and I can’t say I disagree with any of what he said. One thing is for sure- it will be interesting to see how the console market develops and plays out from here on out for sure.

Stay tuned for our full interview with Jamie Fisher in the coming days.

I will not buy a PS5 if there will be one, I rather wait PS5 games to come on PSNOW at this point.

    • GtR35olution

If this comment was on N4G it would be downvoted so super hard. Real gamers play on PS4.

      KYS

    • Psionicinversion

real gamers play on PC, gamers that like to have there hand held and told what they can and cant do by big daddy play on consoles

    • angh

Real gamers play on whatever the heck they want 😉

    • Gamez Rule

      This.

    • Psionicinversion

yeah they can play wherever they want as long its pc :d

    • twinspectre

Real gamers this, real gamers that, I wonder I You’re a 5 years old kid.
If You’re an adult I feel bad for you, what’s so cool about being a “Real” gamer?
I love playing videogames, but I feel cringe saying Real Gamers, And for your interest
PC games hand hold you aswell, so stop with this childish Real Gamers crap, because saying Real Gamers you are not impressing me, You’re just making fun of yourself.

This goes to all the manchild that call themself REAL GAMERS

    • Psionicinversion

go speak to the person that started all this stuff off. PC games dont hold your hand in what im referring to Sony and Microsoft hold console gamers hands not letting them do what they want to do its got absolutely nothing todo with the games

    • twinspectre

with this you proved me you don’t know what the heck are you talking about
Hand Holding is part of Auto regeneration health, waypoints, checkpoints, easy games even on the hard difficulty, etc. and all that stuff Is part of the handholding, and FYI PC is part of the Handholding gen too. I’m not complaining about handholding, because Videogames are not made to be taken seriously

and did you notice my last part said ” This goes to all the manchild that all themself REAL GAMERS” so this specific part means It is not just for you, but for other manchild that keep saying Real Gamers

    • Psionicinversion

errrm nope hand holding is not letting a playstation owner use EA access. They grab your hand and steer you away from stuff they dont want you to do. Thats what i mean. dont really care abotu your definition cus its wrong. if i was talking in the context of games then it would mean that but im not

    • Gamez Rule

Hand holding is not letting PC owners use PS-Now without making a SEN account? PC gamers HAVE to make a SEN account to use that service which means the PC user also have hand holding too.

    • twinspectre

what the heck are you guys talking about
Hand holding means HELPING, Guide people
guys English Isn’t my main language, but I know better then you 2 what hand holding means, well I guess that’s because You guys are Real Gamers

    • Gamez Rule

      Read what I posted!

I have stated “Although hand holding = help & advice” within my post, and even stated “Above showing support by Sony and EA = hand holding”

    • Psionicinversion

What lol… Ok without an account how is it going to know how long you’ve subbed for? Where will it save your game to? For anyone that cares, trophies… And give ability to charge you easily. Subscription service account is mandatory it’s not optional.

No ones telling me what I can and can’t do on pc. If it’s available for it i can use it. Not the same on console

    • Gamez Rule

“hand holding is not letting a playstation owner use EA access”
EA account needed to use service = Hand holding by EA?

*Hand holding is not letting PC owner use PS-Now without an account”
SEN account to use feature = hand holding by Sony?

Above showing support by Sony and EA = hand holding.

Using Windows on a PC = hand holding so yes hand holding takes place on PC too. *Support from MS =hand holding.

So where you stated “No ones telling me what I can and can’t do on pc” Sony are telling you & PC gamers that you need an SEN account on PC to use their service.

    • Psionicinversion

What?? Lol your off your meds. EA access is that subscription service on Xbox to get access to a vault of games it’s called origin access on pc. Sony refused ea access on PlayStation so they can’t access it even if they want to.

Accounts are needed for almost everything it’s standard I’ve even got an online account for the gym and that’s got nothing to do with technology.

No one is telling me on pc whether I can use the psnow, origin access, steam, any type of other program (well unless you get banned then you just make another account but you’ve lost your games). On consoles they decide what you can and can’t access, no one is doing that on pc

    • Gamez Rule

“EA Access terms http://www.ea.com/eaaccess/terms, internet connection and *origin account required to subscribe*; Xbox Live Gold membership required to access certain vault title online features”

Truth is *hand holding* = support, advice, help, and no matter how you spin it that applies to PC as well as consoles. IE: Just using Windows = hand holding due to the above mentioned, same said via other company agreements.

      http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/entertainment/xbox-one/live-apps/ea-access

    • twinspectre

Hand holding means helping people, So in your context Sony is helping(handholding) their consumer to not fail for Ea Access.
Now you’re right, that’s why PC users most of the time buy garbage like Dayz King of the kill and other broken games that are made for making money without putting any effort, then I’m happy with Sony “handholding” me for not buying crap 🙂

    • Mark

He said “Sony is helping their consumer to not fail with EA Access”….smh lol

    • Mark

      Ahahaa

    • Gamingfan

except sony fanboys on n4g arent gamers. Just a bunch of social degenerates with no life.

    • Eddie Battikha

I sense Jealousy, we got the games and that’s all that matters .

    • Psionicinversion

PSNow will probably be closed down by then. Its a garbage service

    • twinspectre

people are singing too early, probably If the service will be closed down, I bet Sony will release Exclusives games even on PC
because with this moves makes me believe that actually THEY will release their games on PC

    • Psionicinversion

nah i highly doubt it. they would have to rewrite there game engines to support PC and then use dx11, vulkan or dx12

    • Gamez Rule

PS-Now is becoming like netflix it’s everywhere, TVs, Windows PCs, console, and to be fair there is nothing to stop Sony streaming the PS-Now service to Mac or other platforms

Sony is taking full advantage of their PS-Now when offering it to PC gamers because in return Sony benefits from those options even if you don’t buy a PS4. There will be more SEN accounts, more people using their online features, more people buying PS+, etc. It’s a win for Sony at the end of the day. So I don’t believe it will be closed down anytime soon.

    • Psionicinversion
    • Gamez Rule

      Is it all TV’s?

    • Psionicinversion

Looks like yeah. It’s was only on sonys and Samsungs TVs anyway. Basically looks like only way to access it will be on ps4 and pc. Everything else is being removed

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

riiiggght! So you would wait for 3 years to start playing them…

I bet you are playing so much 2017 AAA exclusives right now.

    • twinspectre

I have patience, most of the game I’m currently playing are Indies and I’m waiting for a price drop for AAA games, so I’m cool with PSnow

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

Then it will be peachy for you! Kudos!

    • Mark

Lmao. Be careful, your Disqus replies may get flooded with hate ahaha

    • Eddie Battikha

Not me I make decent money selling games, When the time comes for Digital only I’ll be ready.

    • Eddie Battikha

Have fun playing the waiting game.

  • suli559

Anyone remember the original prerendered killzone 2 gameplay reveal by sony almost 10 years ago? Well, PS4 cycle is almost over and we’re yet to achieve what a ps3 game was supposed to look like 10 years ago.

    • Luke Skywalker

      lol

    • suli559

      lol

    • Gamez Rule

It was a target render, which showed what was “possible on PS3,” not actual gameplay.

But after seeing that 2005 trailer shown at E3 ( see link ) to what the final game offered IMO the game looked better. And I think without a doubt KZ-Shadowfall looks much better than any killzone shown on PS3. Target render or gameplay.

      You need glasses buddy?

    • Gamez Rule

Says the person who thinks Horizon: Zero Dawn doesn’t look better than a 2005 Killzone 2 target render video ☺

    • suli559

      You need glasses buddy?

    • Gamez Rule

That 2005 E3 killzone video must look better than anything on 360 and Xbone then ☺

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

Horizon looks waay better than that!

    • suli559

      Nope

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

Of course it does! but I wont waste my time trying to convince someone who clearly is only trolling.

    • suli559

      Nope, you need glasses buddy?

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

nope, you need to get yourself the best console available and check it !

    • Mark

      He dam sure does

    • Mark

      Pffffffffffffff.

    • QUIMICOMORTAL
    • Mark

Horizon doesn’t even look better than an Xbox One launch title, called Ryse, that’ve received numerous SIGGRAPH graphics awards!

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

sure! you just go and find me one article that say that ryse look better than uncharted 4 or Horizon, just one.

    • Mark

I was trolling son lol. However RYSE was simply amazing to look at playin it, still is

    • QUIMICOMORTAL

jiji I never said it wasnt or isnt!

  • Gamez Rule

But still falls short when compared to Horizon: Zero Dawn ☺

  • GrimmyReaper

Meh, seeing how VR is already dying again and consoles still run games at 30fps and graphically can’t compare to PC’s and how games that don’t strive for realism end up aging far better than those that do and gameplay > graphics?

Even if it does, I hardly think it’ll matter.

  • Eddie Battikha

Im having fun with my PS4 Pro on my LGB6, PS5 Fall 2018 or 2019 I’m all in.

  • Eddie Battikha

PS5 will be out Fall 2018, u would think Fall 2019 the earliest, but Sony wants The most powerful console title back and to stomp on Xbox, we’ll see how things pan out.

  • Eddie Battikha

    Not First Party Exclusives Dummy.
