Poland based games publication Witchersite recently published a massive hands on impressions of the PlayStation 4 and PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hint. The preview clocks in over 58000 words and consists a wealth of information about the PC and PlayStation 4 version of the game. We have decided to include some technical details about the PS4 version from that article, but we highly recommend you to check the entire article out.

The entire translation was done by user gregksi and can be found at CD Projek’s forums. The original impressions of the PC version were written by Witchersite’s REGIS and the PS4 version by Lukas77PL.

The author believes that it’s hard to define the graphical settings on the console and that both the PS4 and Xbox One versions look identical. There are moments in the game where the author felt like the developers had to make some compromises but there are times that the game will visually blow you away.

The armor of the characters are extremely detailed with light reflexes; small shimmering metal elements; realistic material textures like leather, wood, metal or cloth fabric. The game looks great during exploration but at times the world’s objects do not load such as vegetation. The draw distance is massive and the water looks awesome.

The author also mentioned that the game does not suffer from noticeable frame rate drops but the game is still being optimized as the studio representative confirmed that there is a lot to fix and not everything is working as it should.

However, the larger locations had same frame rate drops but only during specific moments with texture pop in issues kicking in during the transition from cutscene to quick action. The author also witnessed a few bugs but nothing major. The game is fully playable on the PS4 and is fairly optimized but would need a little more development time to get it in order.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC this May.

At the end of the article post , ‘GB’ plugged in , and I quote:
“The performance of the PS4 version is solid so far”
‘GB’ You added that in , the dev didn’t say that ….he said in so many words …it’s a mess …and said no such thing about xb1….you all are a bunch of little faboys here at ‘GB’…
Yet another article and weak attempt at the “Save the PS campaign” you guys are running here..

    • DarthDiggler

      @disqus_vAwwA8OX1Q:disqus

Given this game is months from release does it really matter how it runs today? I am kind of sick of articles and authors who seem to “review” a game based on preview code. A preview shouldn’t really dip into too much of the technical aspects unless the developer wants to talk about it. Given that the product is in development there should be some assumption there that the game isn’t complete.

GB is no safe-haven for Sony fans. I am not sure how you come to that conclusion.

    • kma99

Might be because of the constant click bait articles and damage control that’s running rampant through these gaming sites

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

If you want a platform that is a safe-haven for Sony fanboys to circlejerk without criticism and to damage control and spin everything in Sony’s favor. We have a platform for you. It’s called Dualshockers.

If you don’t like to be informed the PS4 is a low powered APU. I’d advise you to stay away from any site not named Dualshockers.

    • Guest

Are you and the 7 idiots who upvoted on drugs? You jusr blamed them of addinggthings in then you turn around and add in your own ish. I tell you you MS fanboys are the absolute worst. Hateful, bitter, salty and jelly. They said no such thing. And do you honestly think the X1 veriosn will be in any better shape? The two lastest games to be released on both systems (Dying Light and Saints Row) both have a worst framerate. And this is after all the SDK, API and driver updates and 7th core being released. You guys are so mad that the X1 is underpowered.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Dying Light runs at settings lower than PC low on the PS4 while Saints Row IV runs at medium PC settings on PS4 with frequent dips to 30FPS

What does that say about the two consoles?

    • JoeDaniel

why would they need to run a Save the PS campaign with PS4 selling much more units than the Xbox One so far? that’s just silly…

    • Bryan King

Ha, what a pathetic little outburst from a child who’s favourite console is being crushed both in sales and performance… get a psychologist or talk to someone if you cant handle it. F’n p*s*y.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

That’s adorable. Careful you don’t spill your dew and doritos all over yourself while calling one underpowered APU better than the other underpowered APU

    • Jecht_Sin

“Save the PS campaign”. Lol. Salty fanboys are salty fanboys. With salty tears.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Like with Sony fanboys when it was shown Dying Light runs lower than PC low settings?

      Please, you are both children.

    • Kumomeme

lol, nobody mention anything about anyone favourite software..so why this delusion?because someone is fanboy of certain products

    • Davidgr2

“Save the PS campaign”?? Lmao..you’re either drunk or dumb as hell..I guess both. PS4 has been dominating Xbox One globally since launch. If you were wondering here is why:

-Smaller console with no power brick
-Upgradeable internal Hardrive(SSD and Hybrid supported)
-With Nyko acessory 3.5″ HDD supported up to 6TB
-Games run better and at higher resolution.
-PS plus offers more and newer games.
-Share play..play with friends even if they don’t have the game
-Remote Play–Play PS4 from anywhere using your Z4 or Vita
-Physical games install in seconds vs up to 30 mins on X1
      -Bluetooth
Use any headset with a 3.5mm jack
      -Better built controllers and rechargeable
      -Mouse and Keyboard support
      -Cross Play with PC&PS3

Only a few reasons …who knows what Sony will be announcing on Feb 13th. I’m guessing more real exclusives(not PC ports like X1). If it’s a price drop and performance boost then Xbox One is doomed.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Are you a marketer? Do you really believe in a PS4 boost from MisterTiduxMedia? You do know PC gaming has over 500 million and growing customers so the PS4 is literally a drop in the bucket to publishers

Seek help for your delusions before you hurt yourself and others.

    • dock gamer

Your wasting your time with the sony fanboys they hate talking to pc guys like myself they only feel safe talking about xbox one like ps4 is any more powerful than it .

    • Psionicinversion

Physical games don’t install in seconds, do you think abluray drive or an internet connection loads up 50GB in seconds? It just installs as your playing and the amount it needs to install before it lets you play depends on your download speed if your downloading and drive speed

    • Mark

Lol. Let alone there’s pre-downloading on both systems.

    • Mark

Eh Dave, I don’t know if u knew, but Xbox owners are able to download each other’s games, full versions. I dowloaded my brother’s stuff the other night. I think Microsoft was talkin bout this feature at E3 2013 (fave 10 or something), but got “publicly” knixed. They won’t announce that they allow us to still do this, but it’s there. It’s pretty cool man.

    • jayflow

How many different consoles can you do this on? I know Sony allows you to download digital purchases(full games) to two consoles, but the main account has to be on both consoles. I’ve been thinking about doing this with some friends on Xbox one.

    • Mark

Well my bro does this with a couple different friends and me. However I only share with my brother. Was gonna share with my other friends too but my card’s attached to my Live profile…..only trust my bro. So basically u have to have ur Live profile downloaded on his console, and his account downloaded to yours. However, u can be signed in as u on ur Xbox, not his profile, when playin games. His games (including DLC) will show up in ur Games and Apps section and yours on his. By the way, u do need to buy digital games to execute this.

Imo, don’t share with anyone u don’t trust with ur info, assuming ur card info’s attached.

    • jayflow

Thanks for the info! This sounds like you do the PS4 and Xbox one the same way to game share full games.

After the Sony (PS3) compromise of account info, I stop putting my Debit/Credit card info on any console. I use paypal on PS4 which you have to enter your paypal password to use. Plus I regularly change my paypal password every few months. On the One I use microsoft cards. So not too worried about that part of it.

    • Mark

Good bro. I’m stupidly comfortable with my Live account, so I need to change up ma style, n start using PayPal or somthin

    • Mark

Starman, I know ur allowed to speak freely here, but man sometimes u start this big argument, and then we get all these guys bum-rushing GB, sending the threads into meaningless “fights”. I’m just sayin that, sometimes hold back man. It’ll help keep a decent environment around here.

  • Guest

And the X1 version will run even worst, with its inferior hardware.

    • kma99

      I’ll take that bet.

    • Davidgr2

Then you’re gonna lose..Dying Light runs a lower resolution on Xbone and has lots of frame drops and screen tear. PS4 runs smoothly at 1080p 60fps…keep in mind just like Microsoft announced Direct X12 for X1.Playstation 4 will be getting a performance boost as well.

    • kma99

Lol put your money where your mouth is. Apparently you only read thr part of the digital foundry article that you wanted to read because ps4 frame rate was far from smooth so you could have saved that lie.and in that article they couldn’t tell you for certainty what the resolution was. Typical fanboy lies. Hope you kissed your playstation when you woke up this morning

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

30FPS and lower than PC low settings. PS4 will not be getting a performance boost either. Stop listening to MisterTiduxMedia

      Seriously.

    • Psionicinversion

I bet it won’t the ps4 extra “power” will be all used up just being at 1080p

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

There is no power boost. PS4 was already using a variant of OGLNext in its API. It’s already at maximum capacity and Sony oversold it as usual, hence the Uncharted Downgrade.

    • MrVux007

heh i cant belive poeple are still saying it was a downgrade….i wonder what will people come up with next when the game releases and it ends up being exactly the same as it was shown in the teaser trailer…. (different time of the day, water effects, moon bloom, weather effects like the fog in the distance) it all makes the game look different….

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

      Will it be 60FPS?

      No, I don’t think so.

    • MrVux007

They neither said that the game wont run at 60 nor did they say that it will run at 60 FPS..the game is still in early alpha, and ND always deliveres 🙂 NS n besides i dont know why u mention FPS when both the trailer and gameplay was running on Solid 30 fps…. -_-

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

ND said they were targeting 60FPS and failed to deliver. Therefore, downgraded from what was expected.

      30FPR

    • MrVux007

please post an article where it says that they *failed* to deliver…they only said that they wont go 60 FPS if it effects player experience, which doesnt mean that they *confirmed* that the game will be 30 FPS… and if it is 30 FPS that doesnt mean its downgraded since all footage was running on 30 FPS…so please either wait out until the game actually finishes production (and that will be a while) or just simply stop making false statements…. the game is still expected to run 1080p 60FPS until they say *Nope sorry, the game wont run 60 FPS* until then the game remains WIP…hell we dont even have a release date

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

It’s not a false statement when they were aiming for 60FPS and showed an “In engine” demo running at 60FPS. They didn’t make it. Therefore, the game is downgraded in the technical term.

    • MrVux007

guess the term *pre-alpha* demo means nothing to you …have a nice day Sir/Madam…i know i will

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

I guess I’m not fooled by marketing terms either since the game is already in Alpha stage but Sony are throwing around buzzwords to damage control.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Are you so insecure that you blame the xbone for everything wrong with the PS4? A low power APU is still a low power APU no matter how you try to spin it.

  • Psionicinversion

I bet the x1 runs better with lower frame rate drops than ps4…tbh neither console runs multiplats well, you should get a£500 computer and play them at higher detail settings and higher framerates. Nuff said

    • Davidgr2

Lol sure…just like Dying Light running 900p with unstable frame rate and lots of screen tearing. I love Xbox but they built a weak console for this gen.You can watch media at 1080p though lol

    • Psionicinversion

PS4 isnt exactly a powerhouse either…. you fanboys focus on the difference between the 2 when GPU’s are coming out this year racking up 8TFLOP’s of power… and theres no way its going to come anywhere close unless its an extremely bad port.

2TFLOP GPU’s were high end like maybe 6-8 years ago. its nothing seriously.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

I wish AMD would hurry up with 300 series and Nvidia would fix their sh*t with the 900 series (But that’s so damaged with the 970 scandal I’d imagine they will just announce 1000 series and ship it by the end of the year)

But then the Sony fanboys are very, very mad someone did a PC Vs PS4 comparison and found the PS4 running settings lower than PC low on Dying Light. Sums it up really.

    • Psionicinversion

Well wccftech says that on overclockers forum (it’s a major hardware shop /distributor in the UK) says that a user names Gibbo said we won’t be seeing any new AMD GPUs till may/june/july. Seeing as I know gibbo owns ocuk and deals directly with manufacturers such as sapphire for example it’s a pretty reliable source

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Weird because they are already clearing out the 200 series from stores with massive drops on the 290X to ambush Nvidia (Which is good if you want a home heater. Bad if you want to save on power bills). You would think they are ready to announce a new line. But then with MS going into DX 12/D3D12 at GDC, I bet they will be announcing the 300 series in line with that.

Kinda a shame. I wanted to upgrade in time for Project CARS but this Nvidia debacle and AMD not having it’s shinola together are making it hard for me to justify pulling the trigger

    • Psionicinversion

Will NVIDIA dropped the price of the 780’s when AMD launched the 290/290x to compete with them on price/performance but they didn’t launch anything for months after that happened.

With GDC the specific dx12 hardware requirements will be unveiled under one of the things they said dx12 using DMA which is what is in the xbox dunno what it means or does but they’ll let us know then so NDA is probably lifted then and AMD could do a soft launch by saying the 3xx series will have this in but not give a firm date.

AMD would of had to redesign the chip for 28nm and then depends if the HBM was delayed which will put the GPUs back some what bit I think it will be worth the wait

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

I bet it’s something to do with allowing for virtualising shaders
using cloud compute which would be a huge benefit for things like MMO
performance but needs hardware capability for flashing it in and out.
Both MS and OpenGL are working towards additional tech (It’s going to be
in OGLNext for sure. Of course, they won’t work on something like
proper AMD support to make up for it). Not that it will effect
resolution. That’s still down to the GPU and the rendering type. But it
seems more additional offloading for certain types of games that
traditionally take performance hits due to their processing

There are certain realistic elements to cloud compute that are realistic and not some russian lunatic’s dreams and that certain fanboys will accuse you of being something you are not as usual.

    • kma99

Lol this clown. No matter what the image on the xbox you will always 1080 because every game is upscaled lol who some people ar3 clueless.

    • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

A PS4 fanboy talking about “Weak consoles”. Hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic (Like the PS4’s) APU.

  • MrVux007

You guys in the comment section argue all you want about your elitist syndromes … all i know is that i will play this game on my PS4 and have *fun* with it (that is what games are for,not to ego boost yourselves with your platform purchases)….

  • Batnut1992

God the ads on this site are obnoxious.

  • XanderZane41

The game is looking great so far. Hopefully they will reoptimize the XB1 version after Microsoft adds Win10/DX12 to the XB1 system. Would be interesting to see the transformation once that’s done. I’m still getting the PS4 version however, but am still interested and what devs will do with older games, once the API changes and everything in the XB1 is actually turned on.

    • Davidgr2

Just like Phil Spencer said it won’t be a huge difference.Only PC players will see a big difference in terms of performance.I hope Microsoft announces an Xbox One slim with better internals and no power brick. If Nintendo did it with new 3DS I don’t see why it can’t happen.

    • kma99

You just cut and Paste half of what he said at the time when he had a NDA where he couldn’t speak on it. Now please come back with the full quote before you try to pass this as fact.

    • XanderZane41

Meantime there are developers who have seen what it can do and are flipping out with excitement, but are being silenced by M$ and AMD on it until Win10/DX12 actually launch. The XB1 hardware is weak right now because the rest of it has yet to be turned on. It’s waiting for Win10/DX12 to be installed and M$/AMD to flip the switch. The XB1 will get a lot of the same benefits the PC gets, but M$/AMD don’t want to show it all until the big events. Also the powerbrick is way to powerful for the current hardware that’s in the XB1. Many people questioned the huge power brick, when the XB1 is so weak. There a reason why they have that huge power brick. lol!! It’ll be fun to see how many developers patch their games to Win10/DX12 after it’s finally released.

    • Mark

Actually his most descriptive tweet about DX12 on X1 says “Expect PDZ to Halo 4″……I think that’s substantial.

  • TheWayItsMeantToBePlayed

Yawn. For those allergic to framerate drops and for getting the best experience possible out of a game. We have a platform for you. It’s called PC Gaming.

    • BloodHound7281

Yeah PC gaming has no issues! Lol! Take a deep breath and jump down off that pedestal!
