Original Xbox One Model Discontinued By Microsoft

Microsoft to focus on Xbox One S and Xbox One X going forward.

With the impending launch of the Xbox One X, Microsoft has gone ahead and discontinued the original Xbox One model, ceasing production for it- thereby maintaining their two model strategy, until now the Xbox One and the Xbox One S, and from now on, Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

In my opinion, the original Xbox One was as unelegant as the Xbox One S and Xbox One X are elegant- bulky, massive, and with an egregious waste of space, it was also a dramatic step down in terms of success and perception from the Xbox 360, which had been the de facto console of its generation, and been known for its elegant design. The Xbox One S and soon, the Xbox One X, have been designed as a response to the original Xbox One, in an attempt to address those failings of the original hardware.

At this point, the discontinuation is just a formality anyway- the Xbox One S had long de facto replaced the original model. Still, let’s pour one out for the bulky monstrosity that kickstarted this present generation of Xbox gaming.

I sense a bit of distaste of the Xbox One. They’d love you at Eurogamer.

-Lovingly oversized for it’s weak specs
-Kinect was always a step up for arm and leg interaction instead of fingers

  • Truthhurts24

Thats smart for them to do although I like the original Xbox One it definitely could have been better

    • Wei Feng

Hard if the fans wanted a TV and Kinect media box though

    • Truthhurts24

Nah the original is still great its just that 4K is the new standard for Xbox now.

  • Mr Xrat

Should have discontinued it a year again when the S came out. They probably did, but it took them this long to get through their inventory.

If you did not see this coming then your are either blind, dumb or not paying attention, I am not even sure why it is considered news. The Xbox One was so flawed I don’t even know why they kept making them in fact the Xbox One S needs to be phased out asap as well, sure I think they should still support it or give back 70 or 80% on trade in to get gamers to upgrade because of the massive malfunction that is Xbox One. Don’t get me wrong Xbox is a great gamer company well division of MS but it is considered by itself. I was happy when I found out they where making a real upgrade, and not the S don’t count with less than a 10% increase in power. I preordered a Project Scorpio edition of Xbox One X and I knew they would sell out fast mostly because those of us that know hardware and Xbox know it is worth it. Now they have what over 100 games that are enhanced for Xbox One X or going to be with the number growing, defiantly worth it.

The VHS master TV media focused box the fans asked for.1080p TV and 720p gaming.

Wave goodbye at the Kinect and thank them for paying $99 extra when it was a forced must have.

  • It_Is_What_It_Is

    Just like I said.

  • Smart guy

Better to focus on the newer!

  • LifeOnMars

That’s why Xbox One X will do resonably good at launch. There are close to 25 million unsatisfied One owners who felt cheated by Microsoft not willing to shell out for the slightly better One S. They now have the opportunity save face by buying Xbox One X.

    • One With Shadows

Lol. 25 million unsatisfied customer is quite a number. I have my doubts they’ll step up to be suckered again.

    • LifeOnMars

I agree, but i think about 20% will do will do.

    • Holeybartender

Oh sure,25 million Xbox One owners are going to trade-in their consoles for the XBOX. If they wanted to save face they would’ve abandoned the Xbox One in the first place like the other 59 million(I only say this many based off of the 84 million 360 owners of last gen) Xbox fans did.

Makes sense to produce the device with lowered component cost and looks and functions better too. It’s nothing new either device manufacturers do it all the time as the y develop better iterations of their products.

I dunno… everyone, in being trendy, likes to jump on the original Xbox One hate train. Was the console perfect in terms of design? No. However, let’s be honest, it doesn’t look THAT bad. It’s just a big black plastic box and looks just like any other piece of modern AV equipment. I was never quite sure what all the hate was about… if anything it was simply “meh”.
