Xbox One X Will Cost $499

The price finally revealed.

The rumors were right- Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One X will cost $499 when it launches in November this year. This was the price that Geoff Keighley had leaked earlier this morning, and it seems like he was right on the money.

As the analysts at IHS had said (and as I myself had surmised), this system will not have much market impact at $499. It’s not something that can happen if the system is prohibitively expensive, which the Xbox One X is. It’s a fair price- the technology in it demands it. But the customer will not spend $500 on an Xbox One X, when they can get a PS4 or an Xbox One S for a far cheaper price.

That said, do you think that the system can actually make much headway at this price? Let us know in the comments section below, and stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information from E3 2017.

you remember when people said $599 or more?

it would’ve been great for it to be $399, but games being 4k ultra is pretty good. $499 is good price, won’t be selling like hot cakes though. hope they have some trade-in values for current owners to shave down the initial cost.

    • Evil_Annie_2015

For the hardcore gamers and those who want the best version of all multiplats then $499 will be acceptable. However, I agree with you and I’m not sure many casuals will be willing to Jump on it at that price. If MS wanted to make a dent in Sony sale numbers then this price will surely not help.

With that said, I’m ready to enjoy true 4K console gaming this holiday.

      Riiiiight!

  • Riggybro

Excuse my ignorance but does “USD$499” mean before tax?

    • Riggybro

Hi Riggybro I’ve done the research for you. It’s before tax. The price is actually much higher than $499.

    • Psionicinversion

You talking to yourself lol. The price isn’t much higher actually. If your talking about different currency conversions it’s the same type of thing on all products

    • The Truth Must Be Said

      Typical fanboy.
If you look for high quality image and frames then go for PC since the xbox games are available for PC and PC is much more greater than Xbox.

If you look for exclusives then go for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
It’s as simple as that, but I don’t think donkeys will understand that :]

I’m buying one… actually… it’s pre-ordered since the released of the Nintendo Switch at GameStop… the place holder release date was not far away (November 13th).

  • crazy_black_man- ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

You guys are forgetting that they had to price it at at least $499 in order to discount the price later and remain competitive. They couldn’t afford to come right in at $399. They didn’t fail at the pricing. They failed at giving people a valid reason to own it.

    • Smart guy

Not at all they gave the perfect reason to own it. Just because you can’t afford it or a semi pro for that matter doesn’t mean that they failed to give a reason to own it 🙂

    • crazy_black_man- ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Everybody can afford it. The problem is nobody feels like they absolutely have to have it right away, and most will wait for the eventual price cut.

    • Mike Clyne

Wow, that bubble you live in! Everyone can afford it….hahaha.

    • crazy_black_man- ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Well, you’re probably right, maybe its just me. I’m thinking about the older gamer demographic, so yeah, “I” can afford it.

But do I really need it?

Will I ever eventually feel like I’m missing out on something by not owning it?

      Nope.

Uncompromised 4K is always a good reason to own it. If MS wanted to compete with Sony saleswise then they failed to themselves for pricing the X at $499. Yet, I’m ready to enjoy 4K console gaming this holiday while the PS fanbase ramains dancing around blurry upscalers, frame rate problems and their army of japanese titles..:)

    • Mark

Lol. Xbox X’s graphics are unbelievable, and although imo Sony has the exclusives argument at their side, multiplats on this thing are gonna be insane to play. From Forza to Anthem and Metro…..daaaaam

    • Riggybro

Sheesh don’t be so cruel to the 30 million Xboxone users…

  • Day 1! 😀

  • heima

I would have loved it to cost 449€; it’s a matter of perception since 50€ is not a big deal, but I think that that price (499€) calls to mind the infamous Xbox One reveal, which was unfortunate, as pretty much we all remember.
Honestly IF Scorpio is really capable of doing what was shown – especially with Anthem – it’s an honest price.
Unfortunately though, I was hoping for THAT game that made me want to play it on the most powerful console, an exclusive game that has the appeal that Halo and Gears had when they first launched on Xbox and Xbox 360.

    • Mark

True, but EA’s tryna make that their own Destiny/Division, which wouldn’t happen with any exclusivity

    • heima

I didn’t mean that I wanted Anthem to be an exclusive, despite the fact that too many former multiplat became exclusive titles (Nier, SFV) I don’t think that MS is going to repeat the TR mistake again, although in this case we’re talking about a new IP.
I’m honestly a tad bummed, I really wanted MS to dare to do something unexpected, something that makes people dream.
It’s clear to me that what people are asking for is not the underappreciated concreteness, it’s the possibility of dreaming. That’s what Sony is especially good at, despite their good games are coming out now, after three years of “most powerful console” mantra and little to no exclusives. Doesn’t matter that we don’t know when FF VII and Shenmue 3 will be published, it doesn’t matter that Death Stranding will probably be a PS5 launch title (considering how Kojima works), doesn’t matter it took ten years to see The Last Guardian, make people believe in dreams.
Ms is pushing pc games on console, which is ok in my book, but I’m literally craving for a game that makes me want to play it on THAT specific console because it’s only playable on THAT specific console (be it One or Scorpio, or pc).
Ironically THAT game 10 years ago was Mass Effect.

    • Mark

1000% agreed. Mass Effect 1 and Nina Gaiden 1…..ohhh goodness, 2 of my all time games. I think next year we’ll see some new big ip on Xbox. For now, it’s about insane 4k graphics for me…

    • Gamez Rule

“After seeing a list of games Xbone X ready I really hope devs will patch their older games.

“All future Xbox One titles will include an option to take advantage of the new hardware’s more powerful specifications, the ability for older games to do the same will be reliant on a patch from the developers, as console games are not traditionally designed for scalability unlike PC software”

      http://onlysp.com/xbox-one-scorpio-ready-games/

    • Dougdec92

That game for me was ryse

    • heima

Yep, they had amazing IPs on the original Xbox and during the early days of 360.
I’m tired of waiting, albeit I understand Spencer’s decision not to promote games that won’t be published in a matter of few months, I think that this strategy is not paying off.

    • Evil_Annie_2015

I have to agree with you entirely here. Somehow I have the feeling that sale numbers are not MS’s priority at this point. It doesn’t take anything from high fidelity gaming on the X, but I was expecting a lower price.

Also, the exclusives that will be released this year were expected, but I believe that MS failed to deliver that new title as a surprise.

    • heima

They already said that Scorpio was going to be the console for those gamers who want to play games on the best console on the market, the philosophy behind Scorpio is not different than that behind the Elite pad. The right MS console for the casual/mass market is One S, they clearly stated that.
Also, DF stated that for that kind of hardware the lowest price possible was 499$/€… it’s Pachter that fueled the idea that Scorpio’s price “should be 399$/€ because blah blah blah”.
Clearly 449€/$ would have been a much better price, just because it’s different from the Xbox One launch price.

      .

    • Evil_Annie_2015

True, but from an Xbox fan perspective this was the machine that could have challenged Sony’s sales. It had the appeal from its looks to power. The S did good for a few months but then it felt flat compared to the PS4. I guess It’s clear now that MS was true to their statements about being a premium product and not priced any higher than any other console in the past. But while the price is justified IMO, being twice over the base model makes me belive that Sony’s marketshare will not be disturbed much.

    • heima

Honest question, why should a fan care about challenging some other console’s sales*? I’m a gamer, I’m not fond of numbers that – at the end of the day – mean nothing to me since I’m not a corporation’s shareholder. As a gamer, though, what I want to know is that the console I chose will deliver what was promised. Did MS deliver? Yes and no. They confirmed that they are commited to their consumers, they gave us services which have incredible value (EA Access, Game Pass, GwG monthly offers, reliable servers for multiplayer gaming, backward compatibility). On the other hand they fail to understand and/or anticipate people’s desires with games that people want to play. Of all exclusives the only one that was really top notch was Forza Horizon 3 (and Ori and the Blind Forest, but it’s not a triple A game).
I really appreciate Quantum Break (I’m a sucker for time travel stories), Sunset Overdrive is underrated, Halo 5 and Gears 4 are both getting amazing multiplayer support and both were underappreciated, but none of the above is a system seller.
Mind you, it’s not like PS4 had system sellers during the first 3 years, they relied on the “most powerful console” mantra but that’s something that won’t work with Scorpio because the narrative has changed. And it has change because Sony has the power to dictate what’s wrong and what’s right, thanks to some admittedly biased journalist (*cough* Kotaku *cough*…) and forums, and thanks to the mistakes MS made during the launch of One 4 years ago.
Just like Nintendo, MS is moving on a different path than Sony, and it’s legit. What’s not legit though, is that they don’t insist on bringing new games, new exclusive IPs, new iconic characters, they don’t invest in first party studios. And do you know who I think is responsible for this? Nadella. Not Spencer, who is doing what’s on his power to save the brand, but he can’t do much when the CEO doens’t give your division the necessary funding to let you work properly.
Lastly: marketing. Is it possible that a corporation like MS doesn’t spend its money on marketing? When was the last time you saw a XBox/Xbox game commercial on tv? I live in Italy and the only gaming commercials I see are Ps4’s. Isn’t it the case to invest in advertising, too?

*I understand that the console war is something people love to indulge on, I don’t. I don’t like that “me against you”, I don’t like people being corporate slugs, etc. I totally hate what the gaming industry has become, I especially loathe that gaming sites rely on console war and clickbaiting and that those two factors are now more important than giving the correct news and unbiased opinions.

    • Evil_Annie_2015

In essence I agree with most of what you say here, from the media bias in favor of Sony to MS’s approach to their gaming business.

But I want to answer your question from my personal perspective. As fans, what do we get from console sales? NOTHING. But do We want our preferred brand to do well? ABSOLUTELY. Gaming is just another form of entertainment and having a preference for a particular platform is like having a favorite sports team. We are not only customers but also fans, so naturally we make observations, but in the end it is out of our control. I was hoping for a $399 pricetag for the X to be more accessible to more customers, but only MS knows the cost of making it.

But, am I disappointed about what was presented by MS at E3? Not at all, the X was unveiled and games already announced previously were given a released date. Yet, I was hoping for one or two surprises and while the graphics of games like Forza 7, Metro, Anthem, etc were amazing a lot of the exclusive games shown are not for me.

As for the console wars, it’s clearly something that has been going on for a long time, and clearly a lot of media outlets use it to their benefit. I guess it depends how far you want to get yourself involved in it. Being in a comment section of “vs” articles will always encourage more of the same, and you will end up dealing with “corporate slugs” or being one yourself depending whose point of view is it.

  • Mr Xrat

What a disaster. Those rehashes from previous E3s were graphically unimpressive and everything else was an indie game and MS did nothing to show that the upgrade is worth the cost. Combine that with a woeful first-party lineup and half the year’s games being delayed to the next year AGAIN, this is probably the weakest Xbox conference yet.

If I were an Xgimp I’d be quiet for the next forever.

Edit: LOL I can’t believe I was right about the 20 minute Sea of Thieves demo! https://disqus.com/home/discussion/gamingbolt/microsoft_e3_presser_will_8220likely8221_run_longer_than_90_minutes_8211_phil_spencer/#comment-3351907876

    • Evil_Annie_2015

You better hope Sony delivers something exclusive this year besides Horizon Zero Dawn, because all third party marketing deals will not count once those games run at True 4K on THE X……:)

Tomorrow we will see Sony presenting their E3 2016 plus third party multiplats in a blurry state (I mean checkerboarded)…hehe

    • Smart guy

      Lol

    • kma99
    • Smart guy

Actually u couldn’t be more wrong it wasn’t even 10 min lol and ur an idiot. The graphics were amazing and definitely put the pro to shame lol great e3 by MS

  • lagann

Xbox E3 conference this year was lame af.

They literally just did a bullet point of the specs as a way to “sell” us the device.

Couple of things they should have done in order to have made a bigger impact at E3.

    1) Announce the game pass thing at E3 instead of before hand.
    2) Announce real specs of Xbox One X at E3 instead of at DF.
    3) Should have attached an exclusive MS platform game that shows off the new hardware. Forza does not count as that has never been a photorealistic game nor a game that pushes graphical fidelity. Best looking game that I saw was Anthem and that’s multiplat….
    4) Where’s VR? Would have been perfect to show the power of the new machine.

MS doing numbers 1 and 2 made it seem like they had more in store at E3. Instead, Phil decides to make it all about “Games”…when they really don’t have a lot of first party games to show in the first place…E3 is for the platform holder to show their first party games and console features…then followed up by exclusive things their platform gets via third party games, and lastly show third party games as FLUFF. Phil f up here badly. Only the first 10 minutes was interesting as that was the reveal of One X and the rest of the show was boring until they showed Anthem.

As for the price of the console. At $500 it’s a hard sale….not because the specs aren’t worth it, its because MS just had no clue on HOW to sell it to us. Since their first party output is poor right now, they should have gone all in on the “best place to play multiplat games”. Give us some kind of indication that you are the Valve of the console world…but when your main competitor (Sony) not only has more and better first party heavy hitters than you….they also have more third party releases….and MS themselves don’t seem to be showing you progress in order to change that, it makes their $500 mid gen upgrade console a hard sale.

I’m still probably getting the Xbox One X (I have a sort of failing og xbox and a 4k tv)….but if Sony blows their conference out of the park…I might just get a PS4 Pro instead….maybe…and I really don’t like Sony as a company.

    • Psionicinversion

They did announce the real specs at e3, last year

    • Dougdec92

      My thoughts exactly.

  • Holeybartender

I knew it,the cost of a launch Xbox One.At least this time around that extra $100 will be worth it…if you’re rich,b***h!

    • Luke Skywalker

      wait….an extra $100 means you’re rich??

    • Holeybartender

      In poor people speak.Yes.

    • Mark

Lol! I’m all in bro…..the graphics are insane imo

  • Mike Clyne

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
It’s the PS3 all over again. A suerior tech with a price the mainstream will not pay. I also agree that Microsoft isn’t ripping anyone off, but the average person has never bought consoles at a higher price point than $400 to date.
I wish them luck though. They’ll need it.

  • Psionicinversion

$499 is probitively expensive????… And that’s why we call console owners peasants. $500 is nothing for that machine with that level of power. You’d buy just a 1080 for that price

    • Luke Skywalker

you’d buy a 1080 for that price and put it into what motherboard, with what power supply, with what memory, into what case, with what keyboard and mouse with what processor, with what cooling though?

    • Psionicinversion

Are you stupid, I said you’d buy just the 1080 for that price, and people are moaning about $499 for a complete system. If you understood words you would see that

    • Luke Skywalker

Guess I had some reading compensation issues today…..

    • Mark

      True I hear u lol

    • Psionicinversion

i ended up buying gears 4 haha. locked it at 60 and got rid of most of the problems, was probably because i bought a 3 meter display port cable that was dp 1.1 not 1.2 so probably didnt have the bandwidth to do higher framerates.

    • Mark

Was it full price? I was gonna buy my buddy a copy thinkin it was $30 bucks or sumthin, till he said it was $60 still! Wow

    • Psionicinversion

heck no its 50% off for the free trial week look slike. so i paid £20

    • Psionicinversion
    • Mark

      Dude thx alot!

    • Psionicinversion

thats the main problem with digital games on these consoles they stay at max price for ages. even steam, uplay, ea does to its just steam has alot more steam sales than consoles do i think. with ubisoft games you can get 20% discount instantly. i find the EA digital games to be the most expensive though

  • Psionicinversion

That’s because doesn’t include tax. It’s same on everything in UK before brexit a $399 console should of cost £269 or something like that but with tax and the extra cost of shipping/importing/exporting whatever it sits about £350. So you can’t really say it costs more just for that. It costs more for everything even a fridge

  • Psionicinversion

i was speaking to someone and apparently alot of time if you buy stuff online they dont add tax on or something, plus you get rebates and stuff although i thought they added it at checkout depending on what state your in because i think 5 states have 0% tax

  • Dougdec92

Was hoping the r and d cost for the Scorpio could’ve nailed them a couple of exclusives like anthem and the metro exodus game but nope MS has always wanted to answer Sony and here they are with a beast with no prey, hope it changes next year… That BC bull crap isn’t an over the top blow me out of the water feature… Anthem is… Watch and learn from Sony’s presser today. As always the ps2 is there to learn from.

  • SimplyThom

Didnt Microsoft announce there would be a trade in program for those that own current Xbox One. If so that will reduce the price for those worried about cost / value. For me Im waiting with cash in hand to pre order.

    • Eddie Battikha

Theyre not doing that you would have to just trade it in at gamestop or best buy.

  • stopbeingafanboy

I really don’t have a problem with the price. It’s the game that were shown that I have a problem with.
