Brink
Just like a lot of others games on this list, Brink had so much potential. It was one of the most highly anticipated games of 2011, fans were looking forward to it like crazy, and the trailers made it look oh-so-slick and innovative. When it was released, however, it was a broken mess with mechanics that were more of a hindrance than a refreshment, repetitive mission structure, crappy visuals and terrible AI. It wasn’t absolutely boring to play, though- saying that would be unfair. It was a fairly enjoyable game at some points, as our review says. But when you compare it to the expectations everyone had of it, you just realize what a big misstep the game is.
The AssKickers
It’s an insult to the video games industry to even call this piece of shit a game. It was… it was an insult to the intelligence of each and every person who played it, even if that person was dumb. Just read our review for the game (link below). Never before in our history as a site (with the exception of Duke Nukem Forever, maybe, but more on that later) have we ever written such a derogatory and negative review. Not a single thing in the entire game, other than the comic book-like art style, was good. It was an utter piece of crap, hands down the worst game to have been released the entire year.
Duke Nukem Forever
Ah, the “king.” Of bad games. After fourteen long years of waiting and anticipation and torturous delays, we finally got to play Duke Nukem Forever. Why, God, why?! Duke Nukem Forever, while fun and funny in (negligible) patches, was an utterly horrible game. It’s humour was crass and disgusting and a bit too in-your-face. It has little to no shooting sections. It had crappy driving sections. It had downright broken mechanics. And the story… I’m forgetting, did it even have a story? Let’s just hope that the next Duke game is good- it probably will be, because this time around, Gearbox will be developing it entirely, not just releasing it. But after DNF, I’ll approach anything Duke with great caution.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 2
Nobody expected Deathly Hallows- Part 2 to be a good game- not just because it was a Harry Potter game (and those are rarely good), but also because it’s predecessor, Deathly Hallows- Part 1, sucked so bad. Well, if anything, this sucked even more. The production values were terrible, the voice acting mind numbing, the shooting boring and repetitive, and the level design and structure was downright horrendous. Not just that, it was also very untrue to the Harry Potter universe. Hard to believe that a game based on a movie so awesome can be so bad.
Thor: God of Thunder
Well, it’s a movie tie-in, so no one expected it to be good. But no one expected it to be this bad either. Honestly, Thor: God of Thunder is one of the worst games to gave been released not just in 2011, but probably this entire generation. Playing the game was actually a chore, the mechanics were broken, production values were pitiful and the combat was boring and repetitive. The visuals sucked, the controls were unresponsive, and God, the sound was horrible. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this game.
