3. Dragon Warrior 7

Like its often competing Final Fantasy brethren, the Dragon Quest games (or Dragon Warrior as it was known in the states) are mammoth undertakings. Whilst all games in the series possess impressive longevity, it was the seventh instalment that really stood out as a truly value for money package. What it lacked in graphical sheen and technical ambition, it made up for with a huge amount of gameplay and a pretty awesome story to keep it all together. It's a shame the opening few hours are so tedious, but this is a game that truly gets better as it continues.
