4. Spider
Spider came along during the swan song era for the 2D platformer alongside early PS1 titles like Pandemonium. It tells the story of a scientist experimenting on a cybernetic spider who, after being brutally assaulted, transfers his consciousness over to the spider in order to wreak revenge on his assailants. The game thus tasks you with traversing a series of levels as an arachnid, except one with switchblades and flamethrowers grafted on to his legs. It was a cool premise, but the huge difficulty spikes and old school sensibilities kept this one from garnering the recognition it deserves.
