A lenient development kit
The PS3 offered developers a vast scope in terms of hardware and storage space, but at a weighty cost. It has been described by many developers as hugely difficult to design games for, and the unwieldy cell processor has put off a lot of developers. This directly resulted in a lack of solid exclusives early on in the console's cycle, an issue the PS3 has only really begun to rectify as of late. We can only hope the PS4 hits the ground running in a way the PS3 wasn't able to.
