Wander (Shadow of the Colossus)

Shadow of the Colossus is a bleak game as it is, but the ending was even more depressing. After defeating the 16th and last colossus at the cost of your trusty stead Argo, which saddening as it is, Wander’s body cripples and oozes black blood like the Colossi, and Wander falls into the hands of death, without ever seeing his loved one come back to life. It was a really depressing ending, and one I will never forget.

Axel (Kingdom Hearts 2)

Axel is a really awesome character, perhaps my favourite in the Kingdom Hearts series. His death was depressing, awesome though it may be. He killed of a thousand enemies at once to save the heroes, and as he lay on the ground and lived out his final moments, I realized how sad I would be to see him die. And then he did die, and yes, I was sad. Let’s hope he magically comes back from the ashes in the inevitable KH3.

Luis Sera (Resident Evil 4)

Luis Sera was a very good character, giving us a break from all the grim, dark atmosphere of Resident Evil 4 with a smile on his face and his cool, calm composure. He was meeting with Leon to give him an antidote that would stop the disease from spreading, and as he did, he got stabbed by a huge Zombie penis-hand… Yeah, I know, gross, but his death was very sudden, and that made it all the more depressing.
