3DS Announcement

The 3DS is a wonderful device. This much we know even before it has been released. And the E3 Conference showing helped us know this stuff in a big way. When Nintendo announced the 3DS, no one had any idea how awesome the announcement was going to be. Not only did Nintendo show off the awesome system design, they delved on its features, revealing that in theory, the 3DS will be nigh as powerful as the Xbox 360. They revealed that the 3DS would play 3D games without the need of any glasses, and showed off a lot of other cool stuff. Not just that, they announced that almost all the developers and publishers were already supporting the 3DS. Not just that, they announced that big titles like Resident Evil: Revelations, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a Professor Layton game and innumerable other titles will also be making their way to the handheld system. Come on, how better can an announcement get?

Black Ops Sells 8.4 Million Units In The US In The First Month

This sure was a stunner. I mean, we knew the game would sell, we loved it as hell. But 8.4 million units in the very first month, and that too, in the US alone? Crazy! We though Reach having sold almost 7 million units tiill date was a big deal, but Black Ops just blew it out of the water. I know it became the biggest game launch ever, more successful than any Halo or Call of Duty game before, and that it was selling extremely well, but when it was announced that Black Ops has already sold 8.4 million units, in just a month, and that these weren’t even worldwide figures, I was blown away.

Surprise Announcements At The VGA

Spike Video Game Awards this year were simply fantastic- but not because of the awards, because of the announcements. Prototype 2, Resistance 3, Forza Motorsport 4, Batman: Arkham City, Mortal Kombat, and more importantly, Mass Effect 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception being announced and or showed off, all at the same place? Heaven for gamers. But the three best announcements, according to us were the three we mentioned in the end. Uncharted 3‘s trailer was bloody awesome, watching Mass Effect 3‘s new trailer put me in need of a new pair of pants, and Elder Scrolls V‘s surprise announcement just left my mouth hanging open.

Mass Effect 2 on PS3

When EA announced at their GamesCom conference this year that their best-selling, highly acclaimed title, Mass Effect 2, which was originally just on the Xbox 360 and PC, would be making its way to the PS3,  my mind was blown into oblivion. And when it was announced that all the CLD packs released till now for Mass Effect 2- even Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord- would be included in the game on the disc, plus some extra hours of gameplay, PLUS an interactive comic strip that would tell the story of Mass Effect 1 and could be imported into our Mass Effect 2 playthrough, I just felt so happy that I could die. Definitely one of the most surprising announcements made this year.

Mass Effect 2 will be releasing on the PS3 in a few weeks’ time, on Jan 18 in the US and Jan 21st in the UK.

Valve At Sony’s E3 Conference

Gabe Newell of Valve has been a known PS3 hater- he has criticized Sony’s home console publicly a lot of times, so his appearance at Sony’s E3 conference was a bit of a surprise- a pleasant one. And when Newell announced that Portal 2 would be releasing on the PS3 as well, and would be best on Sony’s system, the cheer that ran through the crowd was deafening. It was all like a big WTF moment, in a good way of course.

That’s It!

That’s it people, that’s the end of our list. Did you like it? Or did you not? Have some different “memorable moments” in mind? Sound off in the comments below!
