Desert
Admittedly, deserts aren’t as overused as some of the other entries on this list are going to be, but they still are a given for any platformer (sidescrolling or 3D) and any fantasy game. Most Mario and Zelda games have featured this setting, and racers almost inevitably have one desert track too. Modern FPS’s, tackling wars in the middle east, are also guilty of having at least one mission set in the desert, with some games like Medal of Honor setting their entire stories in deserts. The upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive, Uncharted 3, features a desert as its setting prominently, which means that deserts are likely to be back in vogue again once the game hits and is a massive success.
