2. Garrus Vakarian - Mass Effect Series

Garrus first shows up in the original Mass Effect without a whole lot of fanfare. His hybrid soldier/tech skills don't make him especially unique in combat and his typical bad cop attitude wasn't exactly stimulating from a writing standpoint. When he returns in Mass Effect 2 though, the elements of his backstory were brought to the fore, painting a gut-wrenching tale of personal vengeance that we could all attempt to relate to. It quickly turned Garrus' into one of the most beloved NPCs in the Bioware canon, one who we would love to take control of one of these days.
