3. Nier: Ending D
I'll go on record saying that I genuinely disliked Nier. I really wanted to enjoy its obscure world design and mature narrative, but the pacing just failed to keep me interested throughout. That said, the ending was an iconic moment. Forcing you to complete the game three times to see everything, developer Cavia then through a curve ball by having the protagonist sacrifice himself to save the world. This involved Nier wiping all traces of himself from existence but, whilst this kind of sacrifice is pretty clichéd in stories, Nier took a step further by forcing you as the player to wipe your save from the hard drive to mimic the protagonist's loss. That's immersion right there.
