6. Catherine
Most of the other Shin Megami Tensei games get away with the “demons did it” explanation, but it left Catherine with a rather swift and all too convenient conclusion. The law endings made the supernatural elements of the story feel like a sweep under the rug, and the chaos endings involved your main protagonist taking over as demon overlord of the underworld. Quite a jump from playing through the game as a programmer with recurring nightmares.
