E3 is always a big deal. Yet, whilst we begin to ponder on what kind of big announcements the AAA developers will be rolling in, we need to pay heed to the more platform specific games that make our hardware purchases worthwhile. In this particular case we’re looking at PS3 related announcements that may be hitting us in June, and how they’ll be bolstering the little black box’s repertoire further still. This list is not in a particular order.

Final Fantasy 14

This might not have been the best entry to start with, what with Final Fantasy 14’s PC release being met with extreme criticism on all fronts. There is no doubt that FF14 was a bit of a mess, but SquareEnix have a fresh chance to make things right with the PS3 version of the MMO. The port was slated for a March release, but has been delayed until a supposed release in late August. That means SquareEnix may have some announcements ready for this year’s E3. Whether they will announce an improved version of the game or further delays/cancellations is anyone’s guess, but at least that way we’ll know.

Resistance 3

With a September release for the third title in the Resistance series looming just past the horizon, there is no doubt that R3 will make an appearance in June. Hopefully we’ll have the chance to get some more concrete details on new gameplay mechanics, modes and weapons. Not only that, but some more footage would go down nicely, and you can count on it being there.

Agent

Agent, yet another exciting new IP from Rockstar, is still very much a mysterious beast. What we do already know of it however is enough to get us excited. The cold war setting is certainly intriguing as, more often than not, games set in this period tend to take a kitschy and comic attitude towards Russian. Even if Rockstar fall into this well tread thematic path, seeing the developer taking on a spy themed thriller will definitely be an interesting new direction for the studio to take. Expect it to make waves if it can fully utilise the power of the PS3. What with it still being so early on in development any announcements or footage will be a major step in the right direction.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Back on the Final Fantasy train, we’ll be anticipating some more Versus XIII goodness when June comes around. We’ve seen some pretty tasty gameplay footage already and are beginning to get more information regarding the title’s story and gameplay mechanics. The one thing we need to know yet is a potential release window. The sooner we know, the sooner we can start anticipating.
