Lack of Innovation:

World of Warcraft has been the MMO to beat since it’s release. While there are starting to be some very good leaps forward in online gaming now, for a while everyone was just copying WoW. Even games that have a completely different theme were a bit too familiar to the old standby from Blizzard.

One such game that fell to this unfortunate truth was Star Wars: the Old Republic. Plenty of folks were excited for this game and expected it it to be the game to dethrone WoW but it resulted into disappointment. Unfortunately plenty of folks who played the game described it was “WoW with Lightsabers” or “WoW in space,” these are not the things you as a developer want to hear about your game. When there is a lack of innovation, games have trouble keeping people’s attention for long. Sure, some folks will be willing to buy into it but most people will just find something else to play.
