BLOODBORNE
Again, not an open world game- but also not lacking in size by any stretch of the imagination. Bloodborne is not just huge, it’s also dense. Its worth of twisted and gothic horrors is brimming with large, mazy areas with intertwining metroidvania-style design and layered pathways and shortcuts. Exploring these locations is an absolute joy, given the fact that even the simple act of exploring and unlocking shortcuts feel like you’re slowly unraveling a massive environmental puzzle piece by piece. It strikes the perfect balance between size and density, and every developer in the industry should take notes on how it achieves that.
