12 Fighting Game Mechanics That Make No Sense

A fight's a fight, right? Turns out that's not always the case in some games.

Non-Lethal Weapons

Games like Bushido Blade had the right idea when it came to weapon fighting – no health bars, and the opponent only goes down with a fatal blow (before getting up for round 2 but that’s another discussion). Now, Soulcalibur was revolutionary in its own right with its weapon weight system, significantly influencing how each fighter would play. But what’s up with blades, Sais and whip swords striking foes, and them not dying? These aren’t nicks and scratches either – some fighters stab their opponents, Jason Voorhees-style. Others like Talim and Kilik have blunt weapons so it’s somewhat understandable but the lack of fatal wounds is weird.
