Since FromSoftware released Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls in the space of two years over a decade ago, the Souslike sub-genre has not only been pioneered, it’s also become widely popular. Every year we get games that take cues from From’s classics in some way or the other- level design, boss battles, difficulty curve, corpse runs, storytelling style, or a combination of some or all of the above. In the coming months and years, we’re going to see even more such games coming out, and here, we’re going to talk about a few of them.

ELDEN RING

Let’s start with the most obvious pick. Obviously the Soulslike game that most people are most excited about is the game being made by the people that made the genre. How much Elden Ring will abide by Soulslike design philosophies remains to be seen, but the potential of the game is incredibly exciting. FromSoftware’s level design is some of the best in the entire industry, so to see that being applied to an open world, in a setting built on the writing of none other than George R.R. Martin, is a mouth-watering prospect.
