The Mysterious Pendant.
At the start of Dark Souls, before even setting foot into the game proper and creating your avatar, the player has the option to choose a gift for their chosen undead. Among the many helpful options, The Pendant was what caused the most theories to echo through the fandom. You couldn’t equip it, there was nothing in the item description alluding to a use and it appeared to do nothing at all. In a game so deliberate, players put their heads together for months trying to find what this item did, only for director Hidetaka Miyazaki to reveal finally in an interview that it actually did nothing at all. He put it in as a prank for the hell of it.
