Marvel’s Avengers fell victim to a lot of unfortunate circumstances both before and after launch this year, and one of the most high-profile controversies came when Square Enix made the announcement that Spider-Man would be coming to the game as a DLC character- but only to PlayStation. A significant amount of players would be locked out of an entirely new character and the new content he would bring- and not just any character, either. Meanwhile, though Marvel’s Avengers’ Spidey DLC was the most high profile example of what Sony have dubbed “PlayStation Advantages”, it wasn’t the only one. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, for instance, has exclusive double XP weekends, bonus weapon XP, weapon loadout slots, and Battle Pass tier skips, which seems particularly problematic in a game that has cross-platform play in multiplayer.
