Mario is a cheery, bounding plumber that can always be counted on for good times. He may have murdered thousands of Goombas but it doesn’t get much darker than that in the Mario series. If you look closely in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 level Shiverburn, you’ll see some shadowy figures looming on the horizon. These thin, alien-like figures are never seen in any other level, and their appearance has never been explained. All we can do is wonder where they fit in to the vast Mario mythos.
