BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY
The notion that licensed superhero games cannot be good seems archaic at this point. 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum was the catalyst for that drastic turnaround, but it was with its seminal sequel that that argument was well and truly put to bed. Arkham City is, in a word, spectacular, no matter what lens you look at it from. As a superhero game, as an open world game, as a stealth game, as a brawler, as a Batman story- in every way that matters in any meaningful way, Arkham City goes above and beyond to prove to its audience that it is legitimately a once-in-a-generation game. One might even argue that it’s still the best superhero game ever made- and the merits of that argument aren’t hard to understand.
