Stasis
The majority of this list is comprised of first person or third person experiences, but Stasis stands out. Point and click adventure games have made a bit of a comeback, but few games of the genre have ever tried their hand at horror. Stasis perfectly executed this dream, putting players in a beautifully realized world that begged to be explored. Exploration and puzzle solving are intrinsic to adventure games but the terrifying atmosphere gave the entire game a much grimmer feel.
