Oxenfree is a perfect illustration of just how much the genre of adventure titles has been brought forward thanks to the innovative and unusual efforts of indie developers. If you want to label it as something, it would technically be “horror”, but that isn’t entirely accurate, because really, Oxenfree is its own thing. It has some of the best written dialogue we’ve seen in a game in years, a beautiful visual aesthetic, some excellent sound design, and a plot that will keep you engaged for the entirety of its runtime.
