METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER
Snake Eater has to have one of the best endings in video games. After Snake is forced to kill her former mentor, The Boss, due to her having defected from the US, it is revealed that she never really defected, that it was all a massive ruse, and she willingly let Snake kill her so that her ruse could be kept up. Several times in the game, though, The Boss tells Snake in as many words that she didn’t defect from the US. At one point, in fact, when Snake asks her why she did so, she simply says “I didn’t”. Of course, as players we all thought nothing of it, but it was only on repeat playthroughs that we were able to understand the real meaning behind her responses.
